#Monomad Challenge - Until the end of time / Até ao fim dos tempos [En-Pt]

Good morning, #Monomad friends

Till Death Do Them Part...

The story that is one of humanity's oldest, and which spans all time... The finitude of life. Death. Something you don't want to talk about or accept, or want to be part of your life... Which, curiously, is exactly the opposite! Everything that is alive now will eventually die one day.

Death is part of life, and shouldn't be seen as something "unnatural"...

Just over a week has passed, and already three close relatives of friends of mine have passed away... It's a very hard blow, but it must be accepted.

I'm now going to tell you about a well-known story. A story that unites two people in an almost eternal way!

The Monastery of Alcobaça, where I shared some photos a few days ago of its very particular Gothic façade, the first Gothic building in Portugal, is the place where Portugal's best-known story of love and tragedy is kept.

According to the legend, this monastery owes its origins to the connection between two lovers, Pedro and Inês. Pedro, son of King Afonso III, and Lady Inês de Castro, noble daughter of families from across the border, met during a troubled period in Portugal. Inês, married to Pedro's half-brother Afonso V, developed a passion for Pedro, Afonso III's son.

When Pedro returned to Portugal and took the throne as Pedro I, he decided to make Inês his Queen, defying all the laws of the time.

They married in secrecy in Alcobaça, the Monastery being the symbol of their love and passion.

However, a short time later, at the behest of Afonso IV (her husband), she was executed for not accepting his wife's extramarital relationship. The news reached her lover, who went into intense mourning, vowing to avenge his beloved's death.

Pedro had the monastery built to be used as a necropolis for both of them.

We can see the two tombs inside the Monastery, which are always side by side.

The alliance between history and architecture makes this a very special and much-visited place.

A morte.

Black and white architecture is great, particularly churches or cathedrals. You can get really good shots like these. I loved the 6th photo 🖤

Thank you so much for your kind comment! It was also my favorite one, but I choose the 7th because of the post title... Thank you so much for passing by!

I have been there not so long ago. Such beautiful place!

These set is a very "old" one! I took this shots with my camera Nikon Coolpix 5700.. Just edit them to convert to B&W and adjustments in the light, contrast, and saturation. Took them back in March 2005... More then 19 years ago! Time passes by so quickly. I remember exactly this day, since back then I had a "significant other" and we had such a great day outdoors! It is indeed a place that I would have to revisit in a near future :)

2005 seems like yesterday and then you say 19 year... and... shit... it is 19 years ago :o

I totally know that feeling... When someone tells me that he/she was born after 2000, makes me almost cry... Ahahah Time surely runs!

ahaha and they can legally drink! :D

omg... the painful reality is getting bigger and bigger :P
