Greetings!
Well, there are a few things that give a hint that I love traveling and exploring new places. And when it comes to getting from one place to another, sometimes I choose the train over the car. There's something special about traveling by train that just makes me feel more relaxed and at ease. Perhaps it's the fact that my hands are free to take photographs, capturing all the beautiful sights around me that I encounter along the way and I have more time to look closer and discover the beauty of those tiny details that form the bigger picture.
Here is an example. I regularly drive my car to go to the nearby city. The distance is not very long, yet, there are always some new sights and as my perception changes with time, I often think "that would be a good photo if I compose it that way" or "aha, this is something new", and so on... But as I got myself behind the wheel, I realize that my hands are occupied with driving. I couldn't take photos, and I know I am missing out on capturing all the beauty around me.
Moreover, my attention to the light around is, of course, decreased, as I am focusing on driving safe, avoiding all possible mistakes, at least those that are on me.
Another good point is, that with a few exceptions, trains move at a slower pace than cars, allowing me to take in the scenery and make photos without feeling rushed. I can sit back, relax and enjoy the journey, knowing that my hands are free to capture all the memories along the way.
Moreover, if I am sharing that train ride with friends, we can all have our full attention and energy into a great conversation. I am good but not great at multitasking so when driving, I often "disconnect" myself from the conversations in the car. Missing pieces of such talks may seem as I am not interested and that's not true, sometimes, LOL.
Traveling by train just feels like a more authentic and enjoyable way to experience a new place, doesn't it? And with my hands free to take photos, I know that I'll always have a beautiful and memorable visual records of my travels.
So, a note to myself... don't pay attention to the less comfort and the more time needed, hop onto trains more! :)
