Frog Battle AI art by Night Cafe
I've been seeing posts about the Pepe card game for a while. As a fan of trading card games like Splinterlands, I'm happy to see another one in Hive so I have to give it a try.
How to Start
First you need an invite to play. Ask any current players (like me) for an invite and then you can go to their game site. Then buy some VOLTs, the in-game currency. 1 HBD is equal to 1000 VOLTs. Keep in mind that this is a soulbound currency and cannot be traded on hive-engine. VOLTs is needed to buy packs and to do some actions ingame. I bought 2000 VOLTs for 2 HBD.
Next is to buy packs. Each pack cost 500 VOLTS so I bought four packs. Each pack contains three cards with one guaranteed Rare or higher. There's also a 12.5% chance of getting Gold Foils.
For me, one of the best parts of trading card games other than playing is opening packs. I like opening packs in Splinterlands and Rising Star as well. Here are the cards I got, twelve in total. I got some Gold Foils which has higher stats than regular cards. There are three type of cards, melee, ranged and magic.
How to Play
There are two game modes, the Demo and Adventure Game.
Let's start with the Demo Game.
I started with level 1 which can be played for free.... Uh-oh, I think I made a mistake.
Anyway, we need three cards to play. I chose my three best cards in this battle. The game is an auto battler similar to Splinterlands. Once you pick your cards, it will automatically fight the opponent.
I won, now time for level 2! But wait....
I messed up. I need to pay VOLTs to proceed but I spent it all on packs. I may have to sell some cards in the market.
Initial Thoughts
The game shows promise. It has two modes of play that can be enjoyed by players. There are some room for improvements though. It would be better for battles to have more animation. Also the cards are kinda generic with just three frog characters. Different art designs and some lore will definitely make the cards have value as a collectible. There are more elements to the game I haven't tried yet but that's a topic for my next post.
That's it for now. I'll also try the adventure game! Oh, if you want an invite to the game, please comment down below.
