The Hive students Hub is a newly born support project for school going children in Ghana, similar to the HiveGoesToSchool project run in Venezuela.
The community team representing (@depressedfuckup,@thisisnativeboy, @abdul01, @samed10) run our first out reach program at GAF International School, an underprivileged primary and Junior High School in Tamale, Ghana.
Prior to our visit, we’d made several preparations in accordance with the school visit protocols and it was agreed we could come today. So we were at the school premises by …am
We met and talked with the staff, enlightened them (again) on the purpose of our visit, and then together with the school staff, we went around the class rooms to talk to and distribute the books among the kids.
You should’ve seen the kids faces. They were beaming with excitement and happiness, curious what our uniform T-shirts represented, what we had for them, and why we were giving them anything to even begin with. So to brief them:
we educated them on who we are, letting them know that we present an web3 community called Hive and that this book distribution was one of the several ways our community is supporting and changing lives in the real world.
We visited 8 classes, from Kindergarten 1 to primary 6 and we shared 164 books among the students and 36 books among staff, giving each member of staff 3 Hive-branded books and 1 hive-branded pen. For the kids, we gave two books to each student in the upper primary classes because they were older and had more use for the books. For the much younger kids, we gave one book to everyone in the remaining 7 classes, everything adding up to 200 books and 16 pens being distributed (12 pens for staff and 4 for Hive representatives)
At the end of our interaction with them, we helped them see that the internet was more than just TikTok or Facebook. Hive is a standing embodiment that the internet can be more. That social media can be more than just a place to post pictures and videos. It represents a true sustaining community that cares about the quality of life of even people outside the community, and is willing to contribute a quota to helping people and making the world a better place.
From our interaction with the student and staff:
A concern raised by the school about a lack of a computer laboratory to help keep the kids abreast with basic modern necessities like access to technology, specifically the internet. This was raised by a very concerned member of staff and he even mentioned of his several attempts to get in touch with non-governmental organizations(NGOs) that could in some be of assistance. In the future, I think there could be regular check ins at the schools previously supported by Hive through the HiveStudentsHub to see if Hive could further help alleviate some of their lacks.
We saw a lot of untapped talents upon our visit and we think it would be great to have some of the kids display their talents on Hive even now. The team considered creating Hive accounts for either the schools supported or individual accounts so kids with potential to indoctrinate and expose them early enough to the internet, web3 and content creation, whatever their talents may be.
At the end of everything, the students and staff organized to say a thank you to Hive for this act of kindness. We’re hoping that we can do regular check up on the school, update the Hive community, and if possible go back there for another distribution exercise some time.
Nothing is impossible with Hive and Hive on several occasions has demonstrated that. The Ghanaian community is forever thankful to @guiltyparties, @theycallmedan and @valueplan as as well ad @hivestudentshub and the collobrative effort of the Hive Ghana team leaders @mcsamm and @collinz for all the ongoing projects aimed at improving the quality and standard of life in our motherland.
