Ecological day🚩🌲 / Jornada ecologica👨‍🏫🌏🧤

in #hive-1455402 years ago
Today I continue with my ecological cleaning days, for this I visited a beach called: "Praia do cavo da Marinha" which has an extension of approximately 380 meters, despite being very small it is quite crowded by the people who live near it! which greatly increases the rate of contamination, normally after cleaning a beach after five days it is already full of contamination, so the tides have a very important factor in leaving polluting material in the sand! and I think this is good because it cleans itself! Only people like me are missing to collect the buried metals!🌏👨‍🏫🌲

High or low tide?🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/Marea alta o baja?🚩🌍

This is a valuable question and over time I have experienced that the ideal tide for metal cleaning on the beach is when the tide is low! In the Bahía de Sexial, that is, in the place where this beach is located, two high tides and two low tides occur, with the lowest tide being at 11:50 am, then it takes about 6 hours for the high tide to arrive again! therefore in the early hours of the morning is that we must clean! This beach is 11 meters wide at low tide, while at high tide we can only clear about 2.39 meters, it's a big difference! and the great advantage is that when there are changes in the tide, the metals that are floating in the water reach the shore and are buried, therefore they are not returned to the water again and it is here where we take advantage and carry out more efficient work!🤯🤯

Like all field work, it is important to organize ourselves and apply ecological techniques! I am a Biologist so taking advantage of my skills is something that brings me better results. My "work methodology today will be to carry out a transect of 395 meters, then divide point 1 and point 2 into two workspaces, at both points I will carry out a metal search of approximately 30 minutes, accounting for all the metals obtained at both points! Today's session will last 1 hour! As you can see the green line indicates the tracking technique used will be in the form of waves so that every space on the beach is used!🌍🚩🧤

Point 1🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/Punto 1🚩🌍

My objective of separating the beach into two search points is to be able to compare in which area there are more polluting metals and thus also be able to make an estimate of which area of the beach there are more polluting agents where people walk more? or at the ends of the beach? I think that after a few minutes I had already obtained at point 1 about 3 beer caps, which are undoubtedly the metals that I find the most on the beach, these plates have an alloy of: (tin, steel, carbon) being tin here and steel, one of the most dangerous metals for the ecosystem!🧤👨‍🏫🤯

Undoubtedly the most abundant metal on this beach is iron, and here are some explanations! Nearby there are many industries and even some ports, therefore it is very common to find many pieces used for the manufacture of different materials, as well as pieces of iron from pieces abandoned on the shore or washed away by the tide! Normally I get the heaviest iron objects at a depth greater than 8 centimeters, and since they are very heavy they sink and remain buried for years! while you can also get bits or pieces of iron on the surface of the arena within 5 centimeters! the smallest are brought to the sand by the high tide.🧠🤯👨‍🏫

I think this was the "biggest metal I got today" it's a juice container that we think are made of cardboard but actually they contain polyethylene and aluminum, I think it's to protect the liquid from UV rays, I'm not sure however we must be very careful because aluminum is very dangerous for the ecology of the seas, among the most dangerous effects is the reduction of the population of aquatic animals such as fish and amphibians!🧠🌍

Results point 1🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/Resultados punto 1🚩🌍

As you can see on average I got a total of 9 beer caps being the predominant metal occupying a weight of between 5-10 grams, the second is iron occupying a weight of between 11-150 grams the exact measurements I can only quantify at home because in the beach the balance is unstable in the sand! Point 1 spans from the end of the beach to the center.🧠🧤🧭

Point 2🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/Punto 2🚩🌍

Point 2 corresponds to the rest of the beach and the "critical" point because it is the center of the beach where people generally go the most to walk their pets, walk, do sports, fish, among other activities! This point has an extension of 215 meters, and I think I will get many polluting metals, including an AA battery🧭🧤🧠

It was to be expected as it is the center of the beach to get more strange metals! I get really worried every time I get a lithium battery on the beaches because lithium is too dangerous in the ocean! it causes many genetic problems in fish populations that we in turn eat! a lot of iron, steel, tin, also predominated in point 2.👷‍♂️🤯

Results point 2🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/Resultado punto 2🚩🌍

The cleaning of metals in point 2 was a success. I got more than 15 beer caps with an average weight of 16-25 grams, iron was also predominant with more than 200 grams of weight among the most obtained objects were: "nails of iron and steel", here I got two lead weights used to fish, one weighs more than 25 grams.😁😁

Results of the day 26/12🙇‍♂️👨‍🏫/Resultados de la jornada 26/12🚩🌍

Well friends, in total, I managed to throw a total of 783 grams of iron, steel and other alloys from the beach, about 69 grams of steel, tin and finally 167 grams of lead! The sum of all the metals together gave a total of 1,020kg, that is, we managed to throw more than a kilo of metal from the beach! and as I always say now the planet is a kilo cleaner!😎🤩

To date, since I started this cleaning project, I have managed to remove more than 2 kilos of iron from the beach in two days, including two telephone batteries!🦾🤩
