As the Valentine’s Day 14th February is approaching, there's a buzz in the atmosphere especially for people who are in love. There are a whole lot of people across the world who are patiently waiting for the day to arrive and can't wait to give the gifts they've got to their loved ones. Valentine’s day for so many people has always been a time to express their warmest affection to their loved ones even though it is argued by quite a number of people that it doesn't really make sense to attach so much importance to this day. They believe love should be extended to loved ones on a daily basis and not waiting till February 14th of every year.
Weeks or days before the Valentine’s Day, there is a mood in the air and each person is making plans towards it in their own way. Some have got the perfect gift others have booked reservations in a fancy restaurant or a massage session among others all for a romantic evening with their loved one. For some, they are eagerly waiting and dreaming for the moment their lover will pop out the surprise and give them the gift they've got. There are some other gestures like receiving unexpected text or calls from old time friends or even colleagues that you don't expect to hear from.
On the 14th February everywhere is filled with red and white from decorations in office, restaurants, supermarkets and other public spaces. There are some lovers who also choose to choke us with some red/white oufits. Restaurant and recreational centers are filled with couples displaying public affections - holding hands, enjoying lunch or dinner and celebrating their love. Some even do more than usual by choosing this day to propose to their partner in public.
It is also a day that social media will be dominated by lovers flaunting and showing off themselves. Yearly, social media platforms are filled with celebrities, social media influencers, and Valentine’s day enthusiasts sharing their romantic moments, expensive gifts, matching outfits with the world. However, for the singles, unless you stay out of social media on that day it may be impossible to ignore the constant popping up of lovey-dovey Valentine’s day contents on your timeline. It may be a reminder that you need to find your missing ribs as soon as possible because there are some mushy mushy posts that will get you thinking on that day. Some couple are all out to pepper the singles on that day with their public display of love and affection.
Like I said earlier, there are different schools of thought to the adoption of St Valentine’s Day. The day means different things to different people and it is being celebrated in different ways. In the Catholic church, February 14th is the annual feast day for St Valentine who was a Clergy in the Roman Empire in those days. They'd mark this day by celebrating Holy Mass and remembering his good deeds when he was alive. While some others believe that gifts should be showered on one's lover on a daily basis and not only on a designated day like Valentine’s Day.
However, whether or not you're celebrating yourself or someone on Valentine’s day, just ensure you practice self-love and make yourself happy as much as you want to make others happy. Your happiness and satisfaction is also important, so pay attention to it.
