Sea, Sun, Family and Relax but my holiday is coming to an end... unfortunately
On August 9, I arrived in Santa Maria di Leuca (Puglia - Italy) to spend 10 days of vacation together with my family.
I will leave this beautiful Italian tourist location tomorrow August 20th to return to my city and my work routine will resume on August 21st.
I still have only 1 day to enjoy the sea, the sun and above all relaxation with my family but today the weather is not the best because only a few minutes ago it stopped raining.
Spending quality time with my family and relaxation were the most beautiful elements of my holiday in Santa Maria di Leuca and the lido that we choose every year is focused precisely on relaxation and in fact it is called Relax Leuca.
In Santa Maria di Leuca it is almost all cliffs except for very small areas where access to the sea is possible from the sandy beach.
I personally prefer rocks to sand and the Relax lido is made up of many wooden platforms because it was built right on a cliff.
The platforms have names of foods and this year I was on the Cime di Rapa platform.
The managers of the lido are very kind people and after several years of renting a platform in this lido I have always found myself very happy.
Another pleasant surprise was the price which, although not cheap (35 euros per day for two sunbeds and an umbrella) remained unchanged compared to last year unlike other beach facilities in the area which have significantly increased the price of sunbeds and umbrellas.
I have been spending some vacation days in Santa Maria di Leuca every year for about 20 years and almost always during the month of August because my in-laws have a house here and in August we meet with all my wife's family to spend some nice moments together.
A pleasant and tasty parenthesis of my vacation here is thanks to my mother-in-law because she is very good in the kitchen and prepares many very good dishes.
One of the dishes that my mother-in-law prepares are the "bombette", fried meatballs covered in bacon. The calories are high but these meatballs are tasty and delicious.
My mother-in-law is also good at cooking fish and she also knows how to choose the freshest fish when she buys it at the fishmonger like the dotto fish she bought and cooked yesterday.
In the next photo you can see Punta Ristola, the southernmost point of the Italian peninsula.
Between the Relax lido and Punta Ristola there is one of my favorite spots where I like to swim and it is also the spot where my grandchildren dive from a height of about 6-7 meters.
I prefer to dive from much lower rocks and I enter the sea using a comfortable ladder built on the rocks:)
August 15th in Santa Maria di Leuca is a holiday where there are several events to see.
On the afternoon of August 15th it is beautiful to watch the procession at sea of the statue of the Madonna which is first taken from the basilica to the church in the center of Leuca and then is put on a boat and travels a long stretch of the coast accompanied by many other boats.
On August 15, the number of tourists in Santa Maria di Leuca increases exponentially and even the phones go haywire because it is difficult to make a call.
The final event of the August 15th celebration is the fireworks display that starts every year around midnight and is always very beautiful to see but this year I particularly liked it.

Mare, Sole, Famiglia e Relax ma la mia vacanza volge al termine... purtroppo
Il 9 agosto sono arrivato a Santa Maria di Leuca per trascorrere 10 giorni di vancanza insieme alla mia famiglia.
Lascerò questa bellissima località turistica italiana domani 20 agosto per ritornare nella mia città e il 21 agosto riprenderà la mia routine lavorativa.
Ho ancora 1 solo giorno per godermi il mare, il sole e soprattutto il relax insieme alla mia famiglia ma oggi il tempo non è dei migliori perchè solo pochi minuti fa ha smesso di piovere.
Passare del tempo di qualità con la mia famiglia e il relax sono stati gli elementi più bella della mia vacanza a Santa Maria di Leuca e il lido che scegliamo ogni anno è incentrato proprio sul relax e infatti si chiama Relax Leuca.
A Santa Maria di Leuca è quasi tutta scogliera tranne piccolissime aree in cui l'accesso al mare è possibile dalla spiaggia sabbiosa.
Io personalmente preferisco gli scogli alla sabbia e il lido Relax è costituito da molte piattaforme di legno perché è stato corstuito proprio su una scogliera.
Le piattaforme hanno nomi di cibi e quest'anno sono stato nella piattaforma Cime di Rapa.
I gestori del lido sono persone molto gentili e dopo diversi anni che fittiamo una piattaforma in questo lido mi sono trovato sempre molto bene.
Un'altra piacevole sorpresa è stato il prezzo che, anche se non economico (35 euro al giorno per due lettini e un ombrellone) è rimasto invariato rispetto all'anno scorso a differenza di altre strutture balneari del luogo che hanno aumentato di molto il prezzo di lettini e ombrelloni.
Trascorro dei giorni di vacanza a Santa Maria di Leuca ogni anno da circa 20 anni e quasi sempre durante il mese di agosto perché i miei suoceri hanno una casa qui e ad agosto ci ritroviamo con tutta la famiglia di mia moglie a trascorrere dei bei momenti insieme.
Una piacevole e gustosa parentesi delle mie vacanze qui è merito di mia suocera perché è bravissima in cucina e prepara tanti piatti molto buoni.
Uno dei piatti che mia suocera prepara sono le "bombette", polpette di carne fritte ricoperte di pancetta. Le calorie sono molte ma queste polpette sono saporite e gustosissime.
Mia suocera e anche brava a cucinare il pesce e sa anche scegliere il pesce più fresco quando lo compra in pescheria come il pesce dotto che ha comprato e cucinato ieri.
Nella foto seguente puoi vedere Punta Ristola, il punto della penisola italiana più a sud.
Tra il lido Relax e punta Ristola c'è uno dei miei punti preferiti in cui mi piace nuotare ed è anche il punto in cui i miei nipoti si tuffano da un altezza di circa 6-7 metri.
Io preferisco tuffarmi da scogli molto più bassi ed entro in mare utilizzando una comoda scaletta costruita sugli scogli:)
Il 15 agosto a Santa Maria di Leuca è un giorno di festa in cui ci sono diversi eventi da vedere.
Nel pomeriggio del 15 agosto è bello assistere alla processione in mare della statua della Madonna che dalla basilica viene prima portata nella chiesa nel centro di Leuca e poi viene messa su una barca e percorre un lungo tratto della costa accompagnata da tante altre barche.
Il 15 agosto a Santa Maria di Leuca aumenta in modo esponenziale il numero di turisti e anche i telefoni vanno in tilt perché è difficile effettuare una telefonata.
L'evento conclusivo della festa del 15 agosto è rappresentato dai fuochi d'artificio che iniziano ogni anno intorno alle ore 24:00 e sono sempre molto belli da vedere ma quest'anno mi sono piaciuti particolarmente.
Non sono un fotografo ma mi piace scattare fotografie e spero che le mie fotografie ti siano piaciute.
