The other night I left work quickly to be able to head to a town about twenty kilometres from where I live.
A small cultural festival takes place here this year. It's the first time they've done this and I would never have known about it if it wasn't for the meeting I went to follow.
The summer before the pandemic I was looking for something to listen to while I was at the beach. I get bored easily sunbathing, so having something to listen to helps me keep my mind busy. For that holiday I activated Storytel and scrolling through the various proposals I find 'The big seven' seven monographic episodes on seven prominent American personalities. Author: Francesco Costa.
I listen to them all in one breath, I love them and start to find out who the author is and if he has done other podcasts.
You discover that there is one where he tells about America and I dive into it, listening to everything again, going back in time and staying up to date on new episodes. I become a fan.
Time passes, Francesco Costa was already deputy director of the Post and one morning I discover that a new project begins, an audio press review, of twenty minutes, every day in podcast format, published by the Post.
So since then I have subscribed to the Post.
I jump ahead, we are at the beginning of 2024 (I think), and Costa opens a YouTube channel where he tells about America in episodes of half an hour maximum. My girlfriend and I don't lose one.
So we arrive on Tuesday and finally, after having tried in vain for two more times, I can attend a meeting of his, where he presents his last book (he has written 4, all beautiful and very interesting) and talks about it for almost two hours.
There, in a lower village, almost forgotten by everyone.
There were probably two hundred of us. I had a dedication on his latest book.
And live is perhaps even better than in podcasts, in videos or on books. He has the ability to tell and build the answers that I envy him so much.
A crazy evening, I would like to find someone to tell me about China or India as he tells the United States.
L’altra sera sono uscito rapido da lavoro per potermi dirigere in un paese ad una ventina di chilometri da dove vivo.
Qui ha luogo, quest anno, un piccolo festival culturale. È la prima volta che lo fanno e non ne sarei mai venuto a conoscenza se non fosse per l’incontro che sono andato a seguire.
L’estate prima della pandemia stavo cercando qualcosa da ascoltare mentre ero al mare. Mi annoio facilmente a prendere il sole, per cui avere qualcosa da ascoltare mi aiuta a tenere la mente occupata. Per quella vacanza ho attivato Storytel e scorrendo fra le varie proposte trovo “The big seven” sette puntate monografiche su sette personalità americane di spicco. Autore: Francesco Costa.
Le ascolto tutto d’un fiato, le adoro e inizio a scoprire chi è l’autore e se ha fatto altri podcast.
Scopri che ne h uno dove racconta l’America e mi ci immergo, riascoltando tutto, andando indietro nel tempo e rimanendo aggiornato sulle puntate nuove. Divento un fan.
Passa il tempo, Francesco Costa era già vicedirettore del Post e una mattina scopro che inizia un nuovo progetto, una rassegna stampa audio, di venti minuti, tutti i giorni in formato podcast, pubblicata dal Post.
Così da allora sono abbonato al Post.
Salto avanti, siamo a inizio 2024 (mi pare), e Costa apre un canale YouTube dove racconta l’America in puntate da mezz’ora massimo. Io e la mia ragazza non ne perdiamo una.
Arriviamo quindi a Martedì e finalmente, dopo averci provato invano per altre due volte, riesco ad assistere ad un suo incontro, dove presenta il suo ultimo libro (ne ha scritti 4, tutti bellissimi e molto interessanti) e ne parla per quasi due ore.
Li, in un paesino della bassa, quasi dimenticato da tutti.
Eravamo probabilmente in duecento. Io ho avuto una dedica sul suo ultimo libro.
E dal vivo è forse anche meglio che in podcast, nei video o sui libri. Ha una capacità di raccontare e costruire le risposte che gli invidio tantissimo.
Una serata pazzesca, vorrei trovare qualcuno che mi racconti la Cina o l’India come lui racconta gli Stati Uniti.
