I felt a certain urgency to share this experience of mine. On Saturday there was Pride in my city. I know I'm not too knowledgeable about civil rights and LGBTQI+ issues in general and I hope I don't write things that might offend anyone. If so, I apologize immediately.
My city is the emblem of the sleepy province of northern Italy, immersed in the Po Valley fog and discreetly bigoted. The idea of having a Pride event here might have seemed crazy and necessary at the same time.
The image commonly spread by newspapers and the press is that of transgressive processions, with loud music, a lot of noise, bizarre characters and a great desire to annoy and shock.
What happened here is the furthest thing one could have expected. It was a festive, cheerful, polite event, extremely inclusive for everyone, from those with motor disabilities to families and straight couples. There was love and desire to be together at the party. I saw my city take to the streets and participate in joy.
I was proud to see my city alive for once and with a movement of people supporting something that was beautiful, polite and happy.
There were children, adults, groups of friends, families, drag queens, protesters and everyone united by the colors of the rainbow.
It was a beautiful day and I hope it can happen again next year.

Sentivo una certa urgenza a condividere questa mia esperienza. Sabato nella mia città c’è stato il Pride. So di non essere troppo ferrato in materia di diritti civili e in generale delle tematiche LGBTQI+ e spero di non scrivere cose che possano offendere nessuno. Nel caso, mi scuso fin da subito.
La mia città è l’emblema della sonnacchiosa provincia del nord Italia, immersa nella nebbia padana e discretamente bigotta. L’idea di avere un Pride qui poteva sembrare contemporaneamente folle e necessaria.
L’immagine comunemente diffusa dai giornali e dalla stampa è quella di cortei trasgressivi, con musica alta, un sacco di chiasso, personaggi bizzarri e tanta voglia di dare fastidio, di shockare.
Quello che c’è stato qui è quanto di più lontano ci si potesse aspettare. È stato un evento festoso, allegro, educato, estremamente inclusivo per tutti, dai portatori di deficit motorio alle famiglie, alle coppie etero. C’era amore e voglia di stare insieme nella festa. Ho visto la mia città scendere in piazza e partecipare in allegria.
Sono stato fiero di vedere una volta tanto la mia città viva e con un movimento di gente che sostenevano qualcosa che fosse bello, educato e felice.
C’erano bambini, adulti, gruppi di amici, famiglie, drag queen, manifestanti e tutti uniti dai colori dell’arcobaleno.
È stata una bella giornata e spero possa ricapitare già il prossimo anno.
