Today was a pretty big day for this little fella. I went to the pet store to get some more crickets for him to eat, and instead of getting the normal 30 medium crickets, I got 5 large crickets as well.

Earlier in the morning, he was roaming around his enclosure near the bottom, and he normally does this when he is looking for food, so I knew he was hungry, so I figured this would be the perfect time to dump the 5 large crickets in there and see if he will get the courage to eat them.

For the first 20 minutes or so, he just sat at the top watching the movement below him, but then one of the crickets started to climb up the side and get closer to him. Now this would be the moment of truth to see if he eats them or not. When he is getting ready to eat, he won't do it if I am anywhere near his cage, so I needed to get towards the opposite side of the room, where it was a bit harder to see me and then hold still.

Well, it worked and he started tracking the cricket with all of his attention and then he shot his tongue out and snatched him up. Normally when he catches his food, it goes in his mouth all in one bite, but he wasn't able to get the whole cricket in one bite. Instead, it was hanging halfway out of his mouth and it took him about three bites to get it all in there. But he did it and showed himself that he could. It didn't take long for him to get the rest of the larger crickets either.

Now that he is eating the large crickets, I think that he might really start growing like crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if he was going to get ready to shed again sometime this month. I can't wait until he is full grown. I am going to have to rearrange his whole enclosure when he is and get some more of the heavy duty vines and branches cause he is going to get pretty big now.

That’s cool speaking if growing how big is he likely to get

Ya, he is going to get pretty massive soon. When I got him, he was the size of my pinky.

I'm wondering how big Yoshi is right now, just to get a sense of things. How big can they typically get?

He is around 8 inches long from head to tail. They can get up to 24 inches long, but usually stay around 18 inches on average.

I see, so he has a lot of room to grow still. I bet alot sideways too if he keeps up on those crickets.

Ya, I think he is just a bit under half of what his full size will be. He is going to start to get fatter as well. Soon he is going to be able to eat some mealworms for snacks and stuff too.

What an awesome accomplishment for the little fellow. I haven't followed his progress and closely as I've wanted to and I'm glad he is prospering!

He is doing really good considering I knew nothing about taking care of one of these. Now I am somewhat of a chameleon expert. lol

Does he bite? We don't have exotic reptiles much here.

He has never bitten me or tried to. So I am not sure if they bite humans or not. I don't think that they would, but who knows. They could get pissed off enough at some point and do it. He changes colors as a warning to communicate his mood.

We change colour too when angry, it's usually red!

Yoshi is incredible!!! A couple of years ago, I bought one with a friend. When he went to live in another state, I told him to keep it, because I took good care of it and because of work I didn't have time.

Yoshi is one handsome fellow !! I love reptiles! Good for him on eating bigger crickets!!

I'm glad he's eating better 🙌 The little guy does look skinny, but he will fill out.

Ya, he is just about two and a half months old, so he is still pretty skinny. Once he gets a bit longer, he will start to fatten up a bit more.

What were you thinking when you adopted this? He's pretty ugly.

nah jk, you don't love your cats anymore or something? long time no see them

He isn't ugly, he is special and has a face that only a father could love.

I'll get some pictures of my cats soon. The weather might be warming up soon so I can let them out for some photos.

Looks amazing, nice pictures man

Thanks homie

Poor crickets, but YAY for Yoshi!!!
Maybe large crickets are too big for him, hehehe.
You don't want him turning into a monster!

Bigger crickets mean less trips to the pet store for food. Win win
