One of the symbols that represent my city, the city where I was born, is this cathedral. Most of the important events such as weddings, graduation masses, etc., are celebrated here. This is also where the Virgin of the Rosary, patron saint of the Cabimenses, resides.
Another important figure that is found here is San Benito, which is celebrated with a huge procession with drums and lots of rum, which occurs twice in the months of December and January.
I am not a very religious person but I have felt the need to take with me photos of those places that are part of my life and at the same time have so many memories. Even more so now that our life is about to take a big turn and it is possible that I will not set foot on these streets again, at least not for a long time.
But I will tell you about that later, now I will tell you a little bit about the cathedral. I was baptized here, when I was about 1 year old, and I also had my first communion. I had to attend catechesis for about a month, so I went to several Sunday masses.
When I left high school they had a graduation mass and I also had the opportunity to go to a celebration of St. Benedict. Inside it is not that big but it has some pretty colorful and striking stained glass windows.
One thing I would like to do is visit the bell area, although I am not sure if this can be done. The next time I go downtown I will go and ask, as it would be great to take that souvenir and those photos back with me to the slturas.
Uno de los símbolos que representa mi ciudad, la ciudad donde nací, es esta catedral. La mayoría de los eventos importantes como bodas, misas de graduación, etc., se celebran acá. También acá es donde reside la virgen del Rosario, patrona de los cabimenses
Otra figura importante que se encuentra acá es San Benito, al cual celebran con una procesión enorme entre tambores y mucho ron, que ocurre en dos ocasiones en los meses de diciembre y enero.
No soy una persona muy religiosa pero me ha entrado esa necesidad de llevar conmigo fotos de esos sitios que forman parte de mi vida y que al mismo tiempo tienen tantos recuerdos. Más ahora que nuestra vida está por dar un gran giro y es posible que no vuelva a pisar estás calles, al menos en mucho tiempo.
Pero de eso les hablaré luego ahora les contaré un poco de la catedral. Acá fue mi bautizo, cuando tenía como 1 año, también tuve mi primera comunión. Me tocó asistir como un mes a catequesis, por eso fui a varias de las misas de domingos.
Cuando salí del liceo hicieron una misa de graduación y también tuve la oportunidad de ir a una celebración de San Benito. Por dentro no es tan grande pero tiene unos vitrales bastante coloridos y llamativos.
Algo que me gustaría hacer es visitar el área de las campanas, aunque no estoy segura que esto se pueda hacer. La próxima vez que vaya al centro de la ciudad me acercaré a preguntar, pues sería genial llevarme ese recuerdo y esas fotos a las slturas.
