The most valuable smile in the world!

This picture makes me smile. It has a special meaning to me. October 2019 I started a charity for a local school in the Philippines. I was touched by the thankfulness of the children. I hade to come up with a name for the charity and it was easy to find one: Receive A Smile.

I went there to visit the local school. I brought a lot of bears and gave them to the children.

In the Philippines, buying toys for the children is at the bottom of the list. Most parents have no money to spoil their children. Today I made many children happy and saw many smiling faces.

But this is only the first step. I had several conversations with the staff of the school and then I got to know the real needs. The team has to make do with limited resources and that really made me sad. We usually don't realize what a luxury we have. Going to school is something we take for granted. We worry about the color of our new car, whether those shoes from last year are still in fashion ...
When I see the smiles on their faces, you just melt. That moment I started to support the school.

The first project was a Belgian Beer Tasting to raise money. I also started a crowdfunding and soon we could provide each class with a box full of materials. You can see in the pictures that the school organised a special day to hand over all the boxes. In return I saw a smile on every face and I came home with a box full of drawing from the children!

I started to collect money and also a lot of books, educational toys, shoes, crayons, puzzles. We sended 3 big Balik Bayan boxes from Belgium to the Philippines.
Meanwhile the pandemic started and we had to focus on distant learning. So we donated 2 printers, a laptop and 30 rims of paper to the school. They had to print worksheets for the kids so they could continue at home.

This is the last message I shared with my sponsors:
The last donation to the school of Bugho has been made. With regret in my heart I have to stop the support. Soon I will return to Belgium for good and I can no longer lead the project here on the spot. What once started as a dream to help the children here has now unfortunately come to an end. We still had many ideas and plans. But it is impossible to continue to follow this project from a distance. The cooperation was at times very difficult. All in all, I am very pleased that thanks to your support and donations I have been able to contribute a little to the lives of the children here. The last donation was mainly school supplies. Crayons, pens, paper, laminator and foil, craft materials, laser printer with extra ink and even a laptop we could donate to the school. I am sure everything will be put to good use. Once again on behalf of myself, the teachers and the children: THANKS!

So yes, I'm proud of that picture. And looking back, I'm happy that I could do this for the children.

A dream written down with a date becomes a GOAL.
A goal broken down into steps becomes a PLAN.
A plan backed by ACTION makes your dreams come true.

Oh that's awesome! I did a similar thing with a school on Mindanao back in 2007. I went for footballs though rather than teddy bears lol After I left, I continued to sponsor some of the kids, and still do today and use a local friend to forward stuff like paper and coloured pencils, you know, the basics, as often as I can.

Great photos and best wishes. You can't beat those smiles :-)

Thanks for popping in. Great that you do the same. For us it's a tiny thing, but for them it's huge. And the smiles on their faces are priceless!

You guys really tried in putting a smile to the face of those children with the things you bought for them , but unfortunately they The project stop because of the long distance.. though in everything , those gifts you give out to those children will forever remain in their heart, and whenever you remember those moment, it will always put a grin on your face.

I came across your post via dreemport and the #iconic team is also here to sprinkle some love on your post.

I will always remember the smiling faces, they're priceless! Thanks for stopping by!

Awww these photos gave me goosies. So precious! Thanks for sharing them @fiatgirl

They have a special place in my heart. I'm feeling happy I could do something for them.

That's sweet!!

Really really nice, keep on going with the amazing work you all do!

Voted on ListNerds!

Thanks for your kind reply. Sadly I had to stop the project when I returned back to Belgium. But at least I could help them and cherish those moments.

This is such a great story. Thank you for taking the time to really tell us about what makes these photos so special

Thank you for hosting the contest! I hope it will result that people start to realize what they have. There're always people who are less fortunate.

Are you in the Philippines?

Not anymore. I lived there for 5 years. I left in 2021. But I have great memories of the Philippines!

Ohh. Phillipines is a happy country, right?

Oh yes, I had a great time. The pinoys are friendly friendly and helpful people! 😘

🤩🤩🤩🤩

Oh wow, that is so awesome of you. Those kids look happy indeed, you're amazing!

I wish more people would do similar things. It's a small thing for 1 person, but if many do it, we can achieve big changes!

You are right, every little bit counts and the more people do it, the impact will be huge too. It becomes a collective effort. Thank you for being an angel to those little kids :)

I didn't achieve this alone. I had people that gave me support. It was all new to me to set up a charity and I had some nice people who gave ne advice. And of course all the sponsors as well. It wouldn't be right that people think it was a solo project. It was only possible thanks to the help of many.

Yes, I believe so that there are others involved and you all contributed to the success of such a novel endeavor :) Blessings to y'all :)

🙏 Thanks!

You're very welcome :) Cheers and all the best :)

Came here via ListNerds after seeing on Dreemport:)

Thanks for stopping by. Nice to hear you also reach out to give a helping hand! When I read those comments, I still believe there's hope for mankind.
I joined Dreemport a couple of days ago. 😁

This made me teary. We take for granted things like this because we are opportuned to have them forgetting that there are kids out there who would give anything to have half the education that we are blessed with. What you are doing for this kids is truly remarkable and very plausible. I love the name of the foundation, "Recieve a smile". You can only recieve a smile when you give one. Making this children happy is golden. Just look at their happy faces. You are leaving a mark in their hearts that they'd never forget. Well done!

Thanks for your lovely comments. And it's so true that the fortunate ones mostly don't realize this. I know it was just a small thing, I cannot change the world. But at least I could do a little thing to help them.

Oh you can change the world. You are changing the world of those kids and teaching them a great lesson that it is good to give and help those in need. It starts from one person and then it spreads round. It might take a long time but it certainly would happen someday. God bless you ♥️

So beautiful that you've been doing this. Education is the start for a better life! Here's a smile for you as well: Meanwhile you should be able to call the !LOLZ bot yourself as well every day !CTP

Sadly I had to stop when I left the Philippines. But at least I could do a little thing. And you're right ... Education is so important. Sadly in a lot of countries they lack a good education. I strongly believe their governments don't want to improve the educational system. It's easier to control a crowd that didn't have good education. But I guess that's a complete other discussion 😏

Indeed it is a different discussion, but when you see how education level in Belgium went backwards in the last 20 years, one could start to ask questions about it in that direction... In Spain it's also still going backwards and it already was so low... I few weeks ago I was helping my son with what I thought were his English lessons. You know what I found out a almost a week later? They were my daughter's.... She's 4 years older....
Which token you want me to give you now that you can call both the !LUV and !LOLZ bot? I also have got PIZZA and !CTP

It's so sad to see that the educational levels are going down everywhere. The children are our future. I have no idea what's the reason behind. It should be easier as they have access to more tools as we had in our days.
Don't feel obliged to give me tokens each day. I really appreciate that you already gave me so much. I don't need to have a lot of them, as long as I can share them and use the bots once in a while I'm more than happy. Sadly, today I cannot give you in return, I already spend them to another newbie 😁

That smile is indeed priceless. This is a very noble course and I'm so glad you embarked on it. But it's so sad to the children that it has to end for reasons best known to you.

I always love it when little children are happy and I'm so sure they will be very motivated to continue their education with those donations you've made and that is a whole lot.

I wish I could see one of those drawings from the little ones, hehe, I know they will be so cute.

Thank you for lending a helping hand to them at Philippines 💙💙.

Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it. It was a lovely time helping out the children. I wish more people will reach out and help others. Even a small gift can make a huge difference!

Yes that's true.

These are so beautiful and adorable 🥺🥺, I love them all, I had goosebumps just looking at them 💙💙.

I cherish them. I have a box full of drawings and letters from the kids, They're always in my heart! ❤️

Oh, that's so sweet 🤭❣️.
