Halloween has become incredibly popular among the younger generations in Japan, as well as among the English-speaking foreign community.
Last weekend an American couple who live in a detatched house in the western outskirts of Hiroshima hosted an early Halloween party which attracted a wide range of foreign residents and Japanese, most of whom dressed up for the event.
Half way through the party a bunch of us assembled in the kitchen for the group photo. I'm the "gangster from hell" in the skull mask, wearing sunglasses and a black hat and holding a cap-firing plastic revolver that I picked up in Daiso (the 100 yen store) for less than a dollar at the current exchange rate!
However, first prize for the costume has to go to Tony, who turned himself into a Suntory drink can - oh, I should say "Suntony" - a limited season drink that is only available in October!
It was one of the best house-parties I've been to for a long time. Mind you, house parties are not so common in Japan.
Happy Halloween, everbody!
Cheers!
