The IRONMAN 70.3 has finally returned after a two-year break due the pandemic crisis. The race officially opened around 4 o'clock in the morning and closed at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon. The starting point is at Mactan Newtown, Lapu-Lapu City and the end point at the same time. This is one of the most anticipated endurance races every year since a lot of celebrities, foreigners and local athletes participate and endure the long and tiring trail.
It really takes months or years of endurance training to be able to endure this extreme activity. If i'm not mistaken, IRONMAN consists of swimming, biking and running but depends on the category that you're in so you really must be good at the skills needed to join the race. It does not only require physical strength but obviously mental endurance as well for you not to easily give up no matter how tiring and death defying it would be.
It's my second time witnessing IRONMAN and it feels different this year since I haven't seen much celebrities in Mactan Newtown but I heard that there's a few in the city proper but it's way too far. The weather was really gloomy and days before the event it had been raining so the organizers and the government were busy clearing up the flooded lanes.
People from different ages, nationalities and walks of life were up to the challenge and withstood and brought home the awards of participation and recognition and it's just very inspiring to see them tearfully and excitedly finish the race. As I watch them coming just a few meters away from the finish line, I've got motivated to hopefully participate in the next ironman race just to challenge myself that I can also go beyond my mind-imposed limitations.
Hearing people around you motivating the athletes not to give up, offering bottled waters and congratulating them for making it that far of the race is just very overwhelming knowing that a lot of people really do believe that you can make it so it somehow boosts your self esteem and makes you really proud of yourself by the time you'll reach the finish line.
At around 2:30 PM, we decided to go back home since it had already started to rain and the event was almost over. I've heard that there'll be activities at night so we just decided to take a rest. Everyone is looking forward to next year's IRONMAN event and hopefully I will be able to join as well.
That's basically it,
