During our day trip in Olango, one of the few activities we did was trying the island's mouthwatering home cooked seafood in Bilao. Olango Island is rich in natural resources and that gives them a good source of seafood for the reason that the island is well taken care of by its residents. The island is often visited by local and foreign tourists especially on weekends.
If you happen to visit Olango and are looking for a great place to satisfy your seafood cravings, let me bring you to Ren & Gloria's seafood restaurant. It's only less than 10 minutes away from the port. We actually didn't plan to eat seafoods in Olango, we just initially wanted to go sightseeing and chill by the beach but as what I've shared in my previous blog, we didn't see a nice spot to rest by the beach so we just decided to eat seafoods instead.
It took us time to decide whether to rent a motorbike or just commute our way there. As for me, their rides are a bit too much or overpriced. Their motorbikes cost 300-400 just for three hours without gasoline. Obviously we didn't grab it knowing we're not gonna use it the entire three hours anyway. We're just gonna standby somewhere to kill the time. The most practical way to enjoy the day was to commute our way to the place which only costs 30.00 pesos (0.53 US Dollar) one way.
Finally after our tiring sea and land travel which took almost an hour combined, we're able to have our lunch since it was almost 12 noon already. We've asked the drivers and residents where to eat seafood and it's one of their best picks so without any further ado we headed to Ren and Gloria seafood restaurant.
They offer Seafood and Bilao meals. Since Bella and I are both hungry for we haven't eaten much for breakfast, we ordered their Bilao Meal. The Filipino word "Bilao" simply means round and shallow basket tray traditionally made of bamboo splits (used for winnowing rice or carrying food).
They have different sets of Bilao Seafood meals. We ordered the seafood meal set C which consists of Rice three cups of rice, shrimp gambas, chili crab, calamaris and saang and of course the meal already comes with a cold 1 liter coca cola soda drink.
The Bilao meals cost 599 pesos (10.64) US dollars. It's actually not bad compared to the price of seafood in the city which definitely costs more than that knowing the serving is already good for 2-3 persons. I believe it's already worth it since I'm a seafood lover and I don't know how to cook so it's a good catch already.
Though, I'm not quite impressed with the location since it's a bit far from the beach, it's just along the highway but it doesn't actually really matter since it's very accessible for transportation whether you commute or rent a motorbike. The place isn't also intimidating so you don't really have to worry about guessing whether it's expensive or not. It looks like a typical native Filipino eatery unlike seafood restaurants in the city, the stores look elegant in a way that's attractive to the foreign customers. Overall, it was a great experience and satisfying to my tummy.
