My delicious meal of fusion noodles. Singapore "Bak Chor Mee" with a Japanese twist results in a really interesting combination of tastes and flavours.
A very cafe like interior.
Watching them cook my noodles with one of their catchphrases staring back at me.
Looks like they've garnered quite a few awards.
A very traditional Kopi, the local coffee.
Soup noodles with some familiar local ingredients and also slices of japanese style charshu.
"Mee Pok" (that's the local name for these flat noodles) with chicken cutlet topped with Mentaiko and Ikura.
Tofu Skin fries served with mayo and balachan chilli. This makes for a great snack.
Enough with the photos and just let me eat already! :)
I chanced across this rather interesting shop today while looking for my dinner. The shop name was innocuous enough, "51 Noodle House", I'd have assumed this was just the shop owner conveniently picking his favourite number and not bothering to go through the trouble of picking a name. That said, upon entering the place, it was nothing like the local noodle stalls that are commonly seen around the island. In fact, this had more of a cafe vibe to it.
I looked at the menu and realised this store specialised in fusion cuisine. More specifically, they took the local Singaporean "Bak Chor Mee", which translates to Minced Meat Noodles, and added a japanese touch to it. This was perfect for me as I loved both the local noodles and Japanese food. A fusion between the both would be amazing!
I have to say I wasn't disappointed. The noodles had that familiar local taste and yet, it seemed to have been "upgraded" with the higher quality of Japanese ingredients. The noodles were cooked al dente and the ingrdients were, in my opinion, pretty good too. The flavours blended well together and it seemed like a match made in heaven.
Would I come back here again? That's a yes from me. If I were passing by the area and had a craving for some noodles/ramen, I would happily pop into this shop to have myself a hearty meal. :)
