Yesterday I was at work until the evening. When I arrived home and opened the door, I immediately smelled good food. What a nice surprise, my wife had prepared a delicious cheese burek for dinner.
What is a “burek”? A type of pie, originated in the Balkans. It is made of very thin dough and filled with a filling (that can be cheese, meat or vegetables). The filled dough is then placed on a baking tray, covered with a mixture of oil and water, and baked in the oven. It is great served still warm, but also cold one is still very good.
Today it is a very popular street food. Very tasty and inexpensive. You can find different variants at our street vendors – from cheese burek, to meat burek, pizza burek, or spinach burek,.. even the sweat version of apple burek.. But for me the best version is the “home-made burek”.
