Aarau lies in the central northen partof Switzerland along the Aare River, was once a fortified city thats why this gate as entry points to the old town. It is actually not clear when the tower was built. The lower part of the tower probably dates back to the 13th century. It was extended 300 years later, about the 16th century.
Walking through the cyity you have a delightful mix of history, culture and nature.
Walking throght the narrow cobblestone streets, when you look up you will see the the famous painted gables. also you can admire the colorful facades and enjoy the mixture of medieval and modern architecture.
The neu bridge, over the Aare river. The riversideways are ideal for a leisurely stroll in every seasons.
In the last years in the middle of november you will find an ice skating rink with practically food and drink facilities for a rest during the skating time. Just you see still a lot of autumn leaves on the ice.
