Paneer or as we all know globally as Cottage Cheese is something very critical to us Vegetarians in India as it is a rich source of protein while at the same time being in the Vegetarian side of the table.
But did you know that there have been Fake Paneer circulating in our neighbourhood?
I found it the hard way while I was eating some Paneer Tikka with one of my colleagues.
But Did you know it's now absolutely legal to sell fake paneer in India? Yes, you heard that right. The only thing is that, this isn't labeled as fake paneer.
This paneer or should I call Fake Paneer is made from mixing palm oil, animal fats and milk solids and you can't even tell the difference from a regular paneer. This paneer is sold for just 200 rupees a kilo while authentic paneer goes for around 600 rupees a kilo and every restaurant is using this fake paneer in their dishes as that is economical.
Now, the government has definitely made a rule saying you can definitely sell this fake paneer, but you can't label it as paneer and you have to label it as analog paneer or fake paneer.
Now, here lies the big problem because almost every restaurant is using it in their dishes and the end user like us don’t even know that we are indeed consuming fake paneer when we order in a restaurant. This can cause some serious problem for people who prefer to eat Paneer dishes in restaurants as they are not eating cottage cheese in fact they are eating hunks of Mixed Oils and Fats.
