Lawless: Jingle Brains

in #hive-1484412 years ago

Good evening, y'all beautiful people! How's things?

Ever heard the word or phrase "jingle-brains"? I had to look this one up to find the origin, although I already knew the meaning based on the context in which I heard it.

Jingle Brains

Jingle Brains - A wild, thoughtless, rattling fellow. - Francis Grose's The 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue

The Dictionary of Thieving Slang (1721), says a jingle brains is "maggot-pated fellow. "Maggot-pated" is an obsolete expression meaning "silly."

(my brain looks like this sometimes)

I was watching a movie called "Lawless" with Shia LaBeouf. It is about 1931 Franklin, Virginia during the prohibition days when people were moon shining (making home made illegal alcohol at home called "White Lightning"). I also love that series. Don't laugh. I am country. Yeehawww.

So...

Shia is head over heels in love with a young girl in town who happens to be the preacher's daughter. He is no joke, either the father he knew about Shia, and his older brothers, and the evil they were committing.

Moving on...

Shia gets all dressed up in a nice suit one day, slicks back his hair, and in a very clumsy fashion tries to court the preacher's daughter, and she says:

*"Are you jingle brained or affected in the head or something? You sure have a strange way of courting. That is what you're doing, right? Courting?" *

lol

It was really pretty cute so I had to look up the term and see where it originated. It is not something you will ever hear anymore, but I am going to try and bring it back to life!

(jingle-brained)

After all, I am a little "Jingle-brained" myself. Well, not the courting part, since I am not a guy. I am a gal.

So yeah. I think it is not that interesting for many, but I just thought I'd share. On the other hand, I had to visit our backyard and see if there were vegetables ready for harvesting. While looking around, I found this dying curly stuff from one of my plants, took a few shots and made as my photos in this blog.

Alright, friends. Gotta go now prepare some dinner. Have a good one and talk to you later!
