Beware of farming accounts

There is a big number of farming account active on Hive at the moment. I've read about this from of abuse on several places already, but I still see these accounts receiving upvotes from people.
The scammers use photographs from old blogposts or use AI generated content to gain rewards.
That's why I decided to dedicate a post to it to raise some more awareness.

How to detect a farming account

It's sometimes difficult to detect a farming account. A lot of them start with hy or nl followed by a number, but this is not exclusively.

There are some other things you could check:

  • They often have no followers and follow no accounts
  • Their account has a low Reputation Level (25)

Most of the accounts they use have been created years ago. Because they post for the first time they will receive Hivebuzz notifications

What to do?

First of all check the post you are upvoting. Is it a legitimate post? Is it a new user? Check the comments on the post!

And if you have determined that it is a scammer, then Downvote!
Make sure that all the rewards will be removed by downvotes.

When you don't have enough voting power to remove all the rewards on a post you can also ask for help in the Hive Photographers Discord Channel (https://discord.gg/dMep2wsKjc)
I've created a special plagiarism-report channel for this purpose.

You can also check if these accounts already exist on the Hivewatchers blacklist:
You can browse Hivewatchers blacklist here:
https://hivewatchers.io/blacklist-search

If there aren't on the blacklist you can report them via:

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up Moose 🤘

Hivewatchers will give you their blacklists in .txt format if you ask so you can see whether they have an account youre suspicious of on it.

One of the farm bots recently posted one of my @leedsunited correct score competitions from about 4 years ago and I got tagged in it!

There's some real wankers out there trying to spoil things for the rest of us!

If Hivewatchers has the account on their blacklist you should see their downvotes already don't you?

Oh, I remember those competitions. I joined a few of them. Stupid choice to tag you in it then 😀

I do wonder how they get access to these accounts.
And it must also be a quite a job to collect all the bits of rewards to extract it.

So it's all automated... Quite smart guys then.

You can browse Hivewatchers blacklist here:

Thanks! I'll add it to the post!

It was actually @castleberry who found it and asked for an extra downvote in the Hive Photographers Discord channel.
He had already removed the most rewards.
I did an extra downvote to remove the last part of the rewards.

This inspired me to create my post. Too many people still upvote these posts and not enough people take action to remove the rewards.

After your reply I checked whether it was on the blackist too. It wasn't, so I reported it.

Hi.
Thanks for bringing more attention to it :-)
These accounts do not post AI-generated content. They plagiarise content from old posts published by different Hiveians.

Please do not report them since we have them all blacklisted. Unless there are some new accounts that are not blacklisted. They have unusual names but fit all other criteria. For example (found today):

Thanks :)

Thanks for the clarification!
