There is a big number of farming account active on Hive at the moment. I've read about this from of abuse on several places already, but I still see these accounts receiving upvotes from people.
The scammers use photographs from old blogposts or use AI generated content to gain rewards.
That's why I decided to dedicate a post to it to raise some more awareness.
How to detect a farming account
It's sometimes difficult to detect a farming account. A lot of them start with hy or nl followed by a number, but this is not exclusively.
There are some other things you could check:
- They often have no followers and follow no accounts
- Their account has a low Reputation Level (25)
Most of the accounts they use have been created years ago. Because they post for the first time they will receive Hivebuzz notifications
What to do?
First of all check the post you are upvoting. Is it a legitimate post? Is it a new user? Check the comments on the post!
And if you have determined that it is a scammer, then Downvote!
Make sure that all the rewards will be removed by downvotes.
When you don't have enough voting power to remove all the rewards on a post you can also ask for help in the Hive Photographers Discord Channel (https://discord.gg/dMep2wsKjc)
I've created a special plagiarism-report channel for this purpose.
You can also check if these accounts already exist on the Hivewatchers blacklist:
You can browse Hivewatchers blacklist here:

If there aren't on the blacklist you can report them via:
