Having Fun in Curation: My Hive Story

Just an irrelevant photo. Me visiting monument of Indonesian greatest poet ever lived: Chairil Anwar.

Greetings, Hive People. I hope you all are doing great.

The past few weeks, I’ve been coming back to Hive. I left when the chain was splitting. Or later, I don't remember. Let's say I’ve been gone from Hive since 2021.

I left because life was good. Lol. But I admit, sometimes I missed reading a lot of posts or watching videos on Hive. Maybe I'm just too obsessed with doing some curation…

So, back in 2018, I joined Hive (I will refer to it as Hive rather than, you know...).

Just like many new Hive users back then, Curie votes were really something (they still are, still meaningful, only with fewer rewards). I’m not a good author by any means, but I wanted to contribute to this decentralized social network.

So I joined the Curie curation team, got trained for months, and it turned out I was good at it. In just a few weeks (maybe a month or two), I ranked up as Long Term Top Curator for Curie. Proud moment.

If I try to remember those strict curation days in Curie, I was just enjoying it. I never took it seriously. In fact, I never took Hive seriously.

Here is what I can say about back then when Curie votes were massive: I just really liked to see cool content. It felt like I could scroll through 600 posts or so in a day just to find one post that would make me satisfied. A post that I really liked.

I didn't worry too much if my submission was going to be rejected by Curie reviewers, which would affect my curation score and lead to disqualification as a Curie curator.

If I found one really great post, I would submit it to Curie and move on. It turned out what I considered to be a really great post always (most of the time) landed within Curie's strict guidelines 🙂. Of course, all my submissions were full of due diligence, checks for plagiarism, author engagement, etc. I think what made the Curie curator training program feel so long and rough is because of this due diligence 😁

These past few weeks, I got a lot of free time (let's say), so I decided to be active again on Hive. Many things have changed. I’m still grasping many new things. But I already found some cool communities.

Yesterday, Gandalf showed me a link that shows a new look for Hive's frontend, and it looks nice. Also, I saw the team from Ecency created an API so it would be much easier for us to explore the blockchain instead of using the dhive library. Superb.

So far, I kinda like it. Feels just the same as it was. I still like reading a lot of posts. I still like watching many videos.

Maybe I will stake some Hive Power on a monthly basis. I think it will align with my curation habit on Hive. Maybe I will try to code something to connect with the Hive network. Looks like it could be fun. I don't really care about the coin price. I rarely check it anyway.

Basically, in Hive, I’m not hoping for anything. Because hope could make it not fun 😊

Sorry for such random blog post. Consider this as a re-introduce yourself post.

Cheers!
