"Blogging for Birdseed" in Cape Town, South Africa - Introduction Post!

in #hive-1484412 years ago

Welcome to “Blogging for Birdseed” – My introductory post!

So, who is blogging, and who needs the bird seed? My name is Julia, and I’m married to @jasperdick. I live in the “small city” of Cape Town, South Africa. It’s actually basically a village. Within four people we are all connected…

A famous Cape Town question is “what school did you go to?” This question helps us identify who you know (that we also happen to know) quicker than doing an ancestry test!

Throwing curve balls like “I’m from Joburg” (Johannesburg... another larger South African city), or “I’m from (insert your country of origin)” may keep a Capetonian on their toes, but trust me, it won’t take long for us to find a connection – we know someone who knows someone you know!

So basically, I’m only four connections away from being your new best friend. Let’s chop that down to one!

Hot topics you can expect me to post about include:
•New mom life
•How to throw a one-year-old baby’s birthday party
•Food (I studied at SA Chef’s Academy)
•Art and Jewellery (I also studied jewellery design!)
•Rediscovering old hobbies
•Creating new interests
•And birds! – especially the ones who need bird seed…

Like these helmeted guineafowls!

It’s not only the birds who need bird seed – the practice keeps my two cats (Bunny and Mr Pickles), and my baby daughter, very entertained – basically like “Cat TV” through the window!

My account will hopefully also be sprinkled with farmers markets, coffee outings, recipes and restaurant gossip, the cats and whatever catches my attention on the day!

Is there a point? Where will we be going? … and will the birds ever get their seeds? Join me and we’ll find out together!

Yours,
Julia A Baker

Welcome! Fellow Capetonian here. I hope you enjoy the journey! It will surely help you grow as a person if you put your heart and soul into it. I am especially looking forward to the food aspect! I am a baker and fermenter of everything (especially knowledge, hence the philosophy!) but I am a big foodie. Hope to see some interesting recipes soon! Best of luck!

Thank you for the warm welcome, I'm excited to follow your blog too, especially the bread making ☺️

Freshly baked bread is one of those pleasures in life we all need to experience! Thank you, I am looking forward to your posts as well.

Hello @juliadick! This is @traciyork from the @ocd (Original Content Decentralized) curation team. We noticed you shared your first post here on Hive and introduced yourself to the community - congratulations and welcome!

(and for the record, you had me at "birds"...lol)

Speaking of community, we have many different ones here on the blockchain, devoted to all kinds of interests. Here's a link so you can check them all out - Hive Communities. Based on what you've shared, I think you'll find these interesting to check out -

Also, as Hive can sometimes be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide should be helpful to you, as it is a growing repository of useful and easy to understand posts about how the Hive ecosystem works. For instance, there's a post in the collection called 3 things Newbies should do in their first week on Hive that you might find helpful.

Please be aware that Hive is a bit different from other social media platforms since you are monetizing your blog, so it is important not to include content that you don't own without sources (and it shouldn't exceed 50% of the post). For more information, check this post - Why and How People Abuse and Plagiarise by hivewatchers.

I'm sure your husband (@jasperdick) will continue to help you as you begin your Hive journey, but if you have any questions, feel free to hop into the OCD Discord server and we'll do our best to answer them, and again welcome to Hive!

Thank you for the warm welcome and for the tips and the suggestions ☺️
