Goblin.tools - AI powered productivity tool set for Neurodivergents!

in #hive-148441last year

Hello fellow Hivians!

I hope you all are having a great day today as I certainly am. So I wanted to tell you all about this really cool website I found out about the other day that has had a positive impact on my life. Anyways, I have a weekly 'Zoom' get together with some of my friends on Tuesdays that started early on in the pandemic as a way to make sure we were staying socially engaged. Last Tuesday we were all just mindlessly chatting away when one of my mates brought up this really cool AI tool he had been using to help him combat his ADHD tendencies called goblin.tools. In short it is an AI powered task and list creator that also can assist with understanding tone in a given phrase, putting together recipes, and more. Although that sounds like such a simple thing, for someone that struggles to stay on task and get things done in an orderly manner, these tools can be a game changer. I believe it was designed specifically to assist neurodivergents such as those with ADHD, autism, etc, however everyone could likely benefit. As such I want to talk about some of the strengths and areas for improvement of Goblin Tools, focusing on its standout features and its potential impact.

Strengths:

Task Simplification: The true beauty of Goblin Tools lies in its ability to simplify tasks and subtasks, breaking them down into manageable steps. This feature proves especially valuable for individuals who struggle with planning and organization, as it helps reduce that overwhelming feeling we sometimes get and fosters a sense of accomplishment. As it is AI based it is also fun to play around with and see some of the creative things it can 'solve' and estimate timing for. For example I asked it for steps to solve the Climate Crisis.

Obviously this isn't perfect as it isn't exactly something that has been fed into the AI but the fact it has anything at all was kind of cool.

Magic ToDo List: The Magic ToDo List is a standout feature that excels in cutting tasks into small, digestible steps. What sets it apart is its adaptability, allowing users to customize the task granularity, providing the smallest, most achievable steps for those days when energy and focus are limited. For example if I had asked to clean kitchen instead of my climate crisis, it would break out the individual steps for cleaning a kitchen such as remove clutter, wipe counters, etc. This really helps with someone that tends to do things in small steps and makes you feel accomplished.

Estimator and Judge Tools: The Estimator and Judge tools are valuable assets for users who grapple with time management and interpreting messages accurately. These tools assist in predicting task durations and mitigating the effects of Rejection Sensitivity, thereby aiding users in better planning and communication. When asked to solve climate crisis unfortunately I was given a timeline between 10-50 years.

Connection with Mobile App: The availability of a reasonably-priced mobile app ensures that users can carry the Goblin Tools support with them throughout the day, enabling quick access and assistance whenever needed. The company behind the site is actually a non-profit and the online version of the tools are completely free to use without any login required so I feel a subscription is actually justified here.

Goblin Chef: For YEARS I've always thought it would be great to have a way to just tell a website what I have in my pantry and have it give me recipes I could make without going to the store or buying anything. Although this tool seems to have some improvement, the concept is amazing and I have managed to eat solely from my pantry for the past week. I also tried playing with this one a bit with some fun ingredient listings and the result while broken was still an actual thing I could have made.

Areas for Improvement:

Limited Task Understanding: As an AI-powered tool, Goblin Tools has its limitations in comprehending more niche or complex tasks. While it excels in common household chores and basic proposals, it may struggle with providing assistance for highly specialized tasks. For example, solving climate crisis.

Immature AI: I feel this AI model is still in its learning phase based on some of the responses I have received. It lacks the ability to tell when it is being fed something nonsensical.

Energy Consideration: The platform lacks the ability to factor in a user's current energy levels when making suggestions, particularly noticeable in the Chef tool's meal recommendations. Incorporating energy-related preferences could make the tool even more user-centric. This is solved in part by the ability to edit the 'spiciness' in some of the tools but it isn't perfect.

Conclusion:

Goblin Tools is a commendable AI tool that fills a significant gap in the market, offering invaluable support to neurodivergent individuals. Its focus on simplifying tasks and providing tailored assistance makes it a highly useful supplementary tool for individuals seeking to improve their productivity and reduce daily struggles. While the platform has some room for growth, particularly in understanding niche tasks, its core features like the Magic ToDo List, Estimator, and Judge tools prove to be real game-changers.

For those who grapple with planning, organization, and task management, Goblin Tools could be a powerful ally in navigating the challenges of everyday life. With its thoughtful approach and dedication to supporting neurodiversity, Goblin Tools sets a positive example for other AI tool developers in building technology that truly makes a difference in people's lives.

When AI took over the art and gaming art scene and people on chain were cheering about it left and right I got really depressed about it. Now I am slowly coming to terms with it and may even try it out here or there for inspiration. Haven't done it yet though.

I know there is no way around life without AI anymore, we're already using it in a lot of places and it is doing a lot of good. But to me it has no place in the arts. And people selling it without stating that their 'artwork' was created by AI, is wrong.

Thank you for sharing this goblin.tools with us, it sure looks interesting.

Oh absolutely. AI has a lot of real downsides as you have experienced. People are creating art with it and passing it off as their own all while using others real art as the source.

It is really brining into question the ethics and morality of it all. We need to be careful as a society with how it all is going to be used.

Even for something like ChatGPT there are hidden downsides which I think we don't yet know about.

It's incredibly interesting to see what AI can do and how powerful it could be!

!PIZZA

Oh it really is a game changer. AI in all sorts of areas I think will make people's lives a lot better. It is going to be challenging for us to approach this area with ethics though.

I was listing to a podcast the other day that talked about the people that train AIs and how they had to sit through and read these horrible passages that get submitted to them so they can recognize things like child porn and other grotesque things. It really messed those people up.
