Abadi Bano Begum (Bi Amma (mother in Urdu)) was a prominent figure in India's freedom struggle. She was one of the first Muslim women to engage in politics and was a key figure in the campaign to liberate the subcontinent from British control. She was born in the province around 1850 and married Abdul Ali Khan, a high-ranking officer in the Rampur State. The couple had five sons and one daughter. When her husband died suddenly when she was young, she was left with the task of looking after her children despite her limited means.

Bano Begum pawned her personal valuables to help her children with their studies. Despite the fact that Bano Begum had no formal education, she sent her children to an English-medium school in Bareilly, Punjab. Maulana Mahound Ali Jouhar and Maulana Shaukat Ali, two of her sons, went on to become prominent figures in the Khilafat Movement, and therefore the Indian independence movement. They have played a vital part in the anti-British non-cooperation campaign.

Bano Begum was a member of the Khilafat committee and had an active political career. In 1917, she became involved in the campaign to free Annie Besant and her two sons from prison. She was prompted to speak by a nationalist leader because she believed she could gain support from women in the freedom movement. She delivered a powerful and moving address to the All India Muslim League in 1917, which left an indelible impression on the Muslims of the British Indian nation.

She toured India extensively to drum up support for the Khilafat movement. Bano Begum plays an important role in obtaining funds for the Khilafat movement, and thus the Indian independence cause. She frequently addressed ladies-only gatherings alongside Mohammedan Hasrat Mohani, the woman of Maulana Hasrat Mohani, Basanti Devi, Sarala Devi Chaudhurani, and Sarojini Naidu, and exhorted women to donate to the Tilak Swaraj Fund, which was established by Bal Gangadhar Tilak for the Indian freedom movement. Until her death in 1924, she was an ardent member of the liberation movement.
