Beautiful phrase right? "Portugal was born here" is actually very true because historically in Guimarães was where Portugal was born as a "country", being one of the oldest cities in the Portuguese country! I had to travel here to learn a little about the history of this beautiful palace, we can also find the name of the place as "Palace of the Dukes" what do you think if we take a walk in the facilities while I show you a little history of my country!🤴👸

Hermosa frase cierto?

👸🤴HISTORY/ HISTORIA🏯🏰

Braga is the oldest city in Portugal, basically here the history of the country is born, that is why the importance of visiting this site! Guimarães as there are very interesting historical sites that tell great stories of Portugal's past, we are one of the oldest established countries in Europe, and if you are a lover of general culture and history then we can not miss visiting "the palace of the dukes" this impressive palace was built in the fifteenth century by the great character "Alfonso I" who would be the first duke that Braganza had, Alfonso wanted to impress his wife and I build this palace for her!😮🤩

While I was visiting Porto I decided to go through Guimarães, I still hadn't seen this small and beautiful city, I knew that I could see the castle, the Palace of the Dukes and other places of tourist interest so I wouldn't miss the opportunity! It is easily accessible and you would pay around 15 euros to visit all the monuments! I did not find it difficult to park the vehicle either, obviously I went in winter, believe me that in summer it is another story! What a beautiful gesture by Alfonso with his wife, giving her such a luxurious love offering that would make her feel like the most important woman in Portugal!💥💖

Despite being gigantic, the site can be visited in just one hour, there are many corridors to see but not all of them are open to the public, we can go through the private spaces of the Dukes, we would have the privilege of photographing the bed of Alfonso I that It is over 500 years old and is still so well preserved! Duke Alfonso had a slightly different taste and created the palace with a "Burgundian" style architecture inspired by France! Of course, to acquire this architectural knowledge, Alfonso had to make many trips to various European countries and he was known for that!🎁🚙

Everything inside is so luxurious and full of glitter that you are shocked by the luxurious life that the Portuguese royalty had, you also feel a slightly cold and mysterious air between each space which makes you transport yourself to the great medieval times! the palace underwent some modifications it does not preserve its original structure but this happened shortly after in the time of Alfonso I since he and his wife moved to "Vila Viçosa", I do not usually make negative reviews about a place when I visit it but I HATE!! ! that the palace in the 90s became the president's palace!!! It seems to me that this was what produced the alterations to its original structure and was strongly criticized by the people!😮😮

It is not just a palace that tells a beautiful story! It is a space full of relics that are many years old, basically the palace is also a museum, we can see different types of decorations from oil paintings to Persian carpets that were common at that time! we can see many designs that praise the Portuguese people for their conquests in the African continent!📙📃

what was my favorite space? Of course, as a lover of historical weapons, I really liked the weapons room, where many weapons are exhibited from medieval times to the 18th century, including some musketeers! many of the weapons exhibited here were used in combat adding a more historic and special touch to the palace!🤩🤩😎

If you look carefully at this photo you can see some chests that have several drawers, basically each person inside the palace had a private chest and it was very important because here they kept their most precious things and it was normal for all of them to be subject to locks with keys!⚱⚱

The exact date when construction of the Palace of the Dukes begins is in 1420, that is, it did not even begin properly in the 15th century, making it older! inside we can visit a beautiful religious area that looks like a chapel, in addition to going through the banquet hall that is very famous because it has a very nice painting on the ceiling that tells about the naval power of the Portuguese!🎨🎨

If you look at these marble pillars you can see that they do not fit with the decoration of the palace and it is interesting because according to the story Alfonso moved them from one space and they represent a trophy conquered in France!💥💥

My walk ends here and as you could see I show you the bed where the wife of Don Alfonso I slept I think that having so much history available and not taking advantage of it would be a waste of culture! That's why I always try to visit as many museums as I can and thanks to hive I can share all the knowledge I've acquired! you know if you come to visit the north of Portugal do not forget to visit Braga the city where PORTUGAL was born!😮😮
