I met a couple at the Family Court where both parents were seeking custody of their 3year old son who will be 4year old in July, 2022. I also realized that the husband was our client whom we were representing in a divorce proceedings at the State High Court. I never knew he had another suit at the Family Court where he was seeking custody of his son which I knew the Court may not grant him because the child is classified a minor.
I got the permission of my client to share this on the platform.
HIS BRIEF
"I met Bisola (my ex-wife to be) in 2016, she was very young, beautiful and vibrant, she possessed the outward physique I liked in a woman. As at then, she was a level 300 student in the University of Port Harcourt, while I was already done with school and was working with Shell, a popular oil company in Port Harcourt, I had money. I approached Bisola like a man and told her my intentions with her. We had sex on our first date, the experience was a memorable one and we were so emotionally attached to each other.
I took up Bisola as my responsibility and catered for her needs amongst which I paid her school fees. I took her out for vacations and gave her treats. We also had many good times of love making. We enjoyed ourselves until one day, Bisola told me she was in the family way. I wasn't ready to settle down yet but she said she was never going to take abortion as an option and In my tradition, having a baby outside wedlock is a taboo and my parents would kill me if they hear of the mess.
I decided to get married. We got married in December, 2017 and Bisola insisted on a talk of the Town wedding ceremony, I had no choice but to do as she wanted. By this time Bisola was rounding up for her project. It was time for Bisola to be a wife and I to be a husband.
Bisola would not cook but will insist I give her money to purchase foods at eateries. At first, I agreed in order for us to stay in peace, but got fed up and employed a maid and a cook.
Many times I also came back home to meet her with a fleet of friends in our home on top of a loud music. I also realized that she was a type that never took corrections, each time I corrected her, she would flare up, pick up her phone and begin reporting me to her parents and siblings and even go as far as calling me names.
She was dirty. Bisola would sit at home all day doing nothing but watching movies and fiddling with her phone and posting videos of herself on social media. She wouldn't take her bath till she wanted to go to bed. I begged Bisola to change and be the woman she is supposed to be. She said the life she was living now was her original life.
I went to make inquiries from her parents who were feeling so sorry for me about her behaviors and her parents told me that they had wanted to advice me when I came initially for her introduction and they even wanted to spell out her true characters to me before the marriage to know if I would be able to cope and if I wouldn't be able to cope, they would have offered her younger sister to me as a better option but seeing that we were both in a haste and seeming like love birds, they both thought it wise to let go. I wept bitterly that day.
At first, I thought Bisola was putting all this up because of her pregnancy, but when she put birth to our son, she became worse. She left the care of our son for I and the maid and only functioned as his mother during religious activities or occasions. That is the reason I need custody of my son because she lacks the apparatus to raise him morally and otherwise.
I went as far as opening a boutique for her and she sweeped the boutique empty within the twinkling of an eye. She denies me her body and is never submissive. During the period of covid, I lost my job, things did not go in surplus the way it used to be and after the covid, I had to gather my savings and start up a business which I am still doing now, I also relieved my cook of her duties due to the fact that I was managing my bills. I also changed the School of my son to a school with a bit lower cost. Bisola mocked me that I am now a pauper and therefore packed her things and left the house telling me that she cannot live a small life. But her parents are not even as wealthy as I am.
She is currently squatting with one of her promiscuous friends and I wonder how long she would be harboured there. The next thing I got from her was a Statement of Issue/Complaint which she instituted against me at the Family Court, where she also seeks for full custody of my son. I know she intends to use my son to get benefits from me. I never sent her packing but she left on her own, but I'm grateful we are not together anymore because I was losing my mind and she was beginning to be very toxic."
This is a brief from a broken man. They have made so many mistakes before and during their marriage. He went further to say these to us, i.e every one that was listening to his brief:
"Never get married to a person because of being in the family way (pregnancy) if you know you are not ready.
Never get married to someone because of the possessions of that person, it may be financial or physique.
Never get married because you wanted to prove a point.
Never get married because you feel you both are emotionally attached to each other.
Never get married out of pity or pressure and never get married to please anyone.
Look harder before you leap into the marriage Institution"
I swallowed hard😔.
This particular brief is looking like the woman is at fault. But I think that they have both failed from the way they started.
Do not start what you cannot finish.
