Pomegranates is a very useful fruit with multiple health benefits. I have heard many people advising to have pomergranates juices for weakness, for strength and for good health. Pomegranates are round, red fruits packed with crunchy, juicy seeds called arils. But I have never seen them growing. However, last weekend, I got my wish fulfilled, when I came across a pomegranates plant in a nearby park.
Pomegranates have polyphenol compounds called punicalagins or ellagitannins. These antioxidants help prevent your artery walls from thickening and reduce the buildup of cholesterol and plaque. Pomegranate juice also has high amounts of plant pigments called anthocyanins and anthoxanthins, which support heart health.
What more interesting is to see the fruits blossoming from flower to buds to fruit. It was a cycle of different makes the fruit edible. Pomergranates can grow in a variety of conditions, including semi arid, hot and dry, and cold. This is summer time in India, I witness one flowering plant. It was a memorsble moment to watch them growing at a public place. They can tolerate frost in their dormant stage, but are damaged by temperatures below -11°C. In process, I took around few pictures.
Fully grown, the fruit is of the big size of a large orange, obscurely six-sided, with a smooth leathery skin that ranges from brownish yellow to red.
