For a good cause

An happy Tuesday to all hivers here!
Yesterday, November 25th, was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. There was a lot of different initiatives all around to raise public awareness of this issue.

When I was a young woman I was a victim of domestic violence and so, as you can understand, I'm really touched by the theme.
To be honest, as a victim and a survived, not everything I read or listen about the theme makes me feel good (sure, I really know that not all men are bad and, to be honest, I grew up in a matriarchal family) and, sometimes, I feel like someone (politicians for example, but not just them) uses the victims just as a sort of "advertising" for her/himself, just because it's simple to share a post against the violence on the social media and, out of the screen, to be an aggressive and violent person. Because of this, I don't like to talk about my own experience, but I know I was lucky (yes, I'm still alive) and so I feel obligated to do something in real every time I can and out of the screens.

When it happened to me (many years ago), there were no associations around to help victims, but I had my own family and some precious friends who helped me (even if the first "help" is always inside of us). It was not so simple for many different reasons and so I perfectly know the importance of some associations that along the time were born.
This year I decided to donate one of my piece to an Association that fight the domestic violence helping women to have a safe place. I was not the only one and yesterday there was the art exhibition where all the artworks donated were placed in a beautiful hotel not so far from my city and I'm happy to say a person bought my piece so the entire amount will help women in danger situation!

It's sad that we still need these initiatives. Women have gained a lot in my lifetime, but still have to overcome barriers. A strong man is one who respects women.

Its so sad you have to experience domestic violence yourself but thank God you survived it to tell your stories and i'm sure its for a good reason. Many needs to hear your story and be encouraged to stay strong and heal.
