An happy Sunday to all hivers here! It looks a busy time for my art, because I'm working hard on different pieces during these days and tis is very good, because when I work on my artworks I feel myself full of energy and in the very positive mood!
Some days ago I decided to make a large painting for my next solo exhibition. I felt the need to paint something larger than my usual and I didn't have a similar blank canvas at home, so I decided to make it by myself!
It was not the first time I made by myself a stretched blank canvas and inside my lab I have different parts of frames in different size plus some large cotton fabrics and so I staeìrted to make it! ^_^
While I was starting I understood I missed one of the parts of the wooden frame, so I made it thanks an old long piece of wood I had in a corner of the lab.
When the wooden frame was ok, I started to attach the white cotton fabric (a large scrap of an old bed sheet).
It's not so simple to stretch the fabric on the frame, I use to do it step by step, time after time to stretch the fabric at the best.
When the fabric is ok, I start to give some coats of primer on the fabric. In this case I used a lot of coats of tempera instead of my usual gesso, I did it because I had an idea in my mind about what "effect" I wanted on the background.
When the layers of tempera was dry enough I started to paint the couple of figures that will be the subject of this painting:
After this first steps with tempera colors, I will use my oil colors to paint this piece!
Stay tuned to see the next steps!
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia
