Pasé días durmiendo muy poco y organizando tantas cosas a la vez que francamente, hoy estoy destruida... quiero dormir un mes y volver a renacer en abril pero el aislamiento no es sano asi que vamos a echar los cuentos tu y yo, y a contarte cómo y por qué cosí 100 scrunchies en menos de 5 días 🙂 👍

I spent days getting very little sleep and organizing so many things at once that frankly, I'm destroyed today... I want to sleep for a month and be reborn in April but isolation is not healthy so let's you and I get the stories out, and tell you how and why I sewed 100 scrunchies in less than 5 days 🙂 👍
✦ In the previous chapter I managed to sterilize 6 out of 12 females, leaving 6 more females and 9 males. The recovery of all of them took between 2 weeks and 1 month, so I spent all of November and December 2024 completely dedicated to them ✦
✦ But in the time I was resting, since December 31st, I received calls from cats giving birth, some affected by the noise of the fireworks and having difficult births with premature kittens... I had a very bad time, the first days of January were terrible
✦ In total there were 5 births: The first birth was chaotic and all the kittens died, the second birth seems to have been of only 1 kitten and she survived and is safe and sound with her new family. The third and fourth births, the mother cats hid next to the water pump structures and we had to rescue them, all their kittens are fine... and the 5th birth was strange, the mother cat left her babies lying around, fortunately another mother cat adopted them as hers ✦
En términos breves la situación se volvió crítica, muchos gatitos bebés y mamás gato sin refugio, el calor esta increíblemente insoportable en la ciudad y la calle es peligrosa. Pero la próxima jornada de esterilización a bajo costo estaba a menos de 15 días y necesitábamos urgentemente entre 150$ y 200$ para llevar un mínimo de 6 gatas a cirugía. En modo emergencia, la mejor idea que se nos ocurrió fue hacer scrunchies para la venta, y a 2$ c/u necesitaba coser un mínimo de 100 unidades: Con sinceridad no me arrepiento de nada pero tengo que ser sincera y decir que subestimé la meta, desde el día 1 fue físicamente y mentalmente agotador.
In short, the situation was critical, many baby kittens and mother cats without shelter, the heat in the city unbelievably unbearable, and the streets dangerous. But the next low-cost spay/neuter day was less than 15 days away and we urgently needed between $150 and $200 to get at least 6 cats into surgery. In emergency mode, the best idea we could come up with was to make scrunchies to sell, and at $2 each, I needed to sew at least 100 units: I honestly don't have any regrets, but I have to be honest and say that I underestimated the goal, from day one it was physically and mentally exhausting.

Los primeros scrunchies variaron en tamaño y diseño porque estan hechos con telas que guardaba para otros proyectos o para coser ropa para mi, pero esta situacion era urgente y mucho mas importante que los proyectos por pasatiempo o diversión, así que desde el día número 2 teníamos disponibles para la venta unos 5 a 6 modelos de scrunchies diferentes, pero logré hacer apenas 20 y al mismo tiempo estaba negociando el préstamo de la casa donde resguardaríamos a todos los gatitos para el post-operatorio, también hacía el recorrido-viaje de alimentación de la colonia gatuna y tambien vigilaba a las mamás gatito y sus bebés varias veces al día para que no se los robaran o les hicieran algún daño (estaba muy estresada).
The first scrunchies varied in size and design because they were made with fabric I was saving for other projects or to sew clothes for myself, but this situation was urgent and much more important than the hobby or fun projects, so from day number 2 we had about 5 to 6 different scrunchy models available for sale, but I only managed to make 20 and at the same time I was negotiating the loan of the house where we would keep all the kittens for the post-op, I was also doing the feeding trip for the cat colony and I was also watching the kitten moms and their babies several times a day so they wouldn't steal or hurt them (I was very stressed).

✦ Something that causes me a bit of extra stress is that the first scrunchies didn't receive very good feedback, so I had to rethink the measurements and design from scratch ✦
La mayoría de las unidades que vez en las fotos las cosí durante la madrugada porque durante el día estaba demasiado ocupada. Mis favoritos son los scrunchies "jumbo" o "maxi scrunchies" con encaje pero mi mamá y la amiga que me ayuda con este proyecto me dijeron que es un estilo demasiado exagerado para el gusto de las personas "no otaku, no geek", que por favor los hiciera mas discretos, así que les hice caso y por eso hay tantos tamaños distintos, pero notaras que a partir de aquí el diseño es más minimalista.
Most of the units you see in the photos were sewn in the wee hours of the morning because I was too busy during the day. My favorites are the "jumbo" or "maxi scrunchies" with lace, but my mom and the friend who helps me with this project told me that this style was too much for the taste of the "no otaku, no geek" people, to please make them more discreet, so I listened to them, and that's why there are so many different sizes, but you'll notice that the design is more minimalist from here on out.

Para este momento ya había elaborado 48 scrunchies y francamente dudé mucho de llegar a la meta de 100 unidades porque quedaban menos de 10 días para venderlos todos. Todavía debía elaborar unos 50 más y entendí que si quería tener éxito debería quedarme despierta las próximas noches, cosa que hice ლ (ಠ_ಠ ლ) ¡Quédate conmigo!, mañana compartiré la segunda parte de esta dolorosa aventura jajaja ~ 🐱 🩹
At this point, I had already made 48 scrunchies, and frankly, I was very hesitant to reach the goal of 100 units because there were less than 10 days left to sell them all.
