United States Representative Hakeem Jeffries, the Democrat House Minority Leader, today that "We will never yield our democracy to the MAGA extremists who want to take it away."
Astute Americans, who have more than a passing familiarity with the American Constitution, no doubt will observe that America was charted as a Constitutional Republican. Democracy is a mechanism by which it's Legislative Members and Executives are selected. James Madison an obvious expert on the Constitution presents a succinct and eloquent explanation of why the United States Federal Government was not chartered as a Democracy in the Federalist Papers #10.
Unfortunately Americans as whole are woefully undereducated in the fundamental topics of America Civics, and the American Republican has been so degraded and bastardized that it only passingly resembles what was created and envisioned by it's Founders. A crippling large standing Army, a Central Bank which has continuously degraded the currency for the better part of a century, a succession of ruinous poorly defined wars, and a vexatious system of taxation which the Founders would have found appallingly worse than what led them to rebel against an English King.
The United States has become some form of bastardized Oligarchical Bureaucracy.
Back to Representative Jefferies, in the Tweet he equates MAGA or Trump voters to an existential threat to America. While this phrasing is designed to gain pain airtime on Cable News, and pander to the fears of anti-Trump illiberal base - it illustrates that many have begun to view the battle for the Presidency as a winner take all game. Trump has long promised to remove the "swamp" from Washington, or to dislodge the parasitic class from the vicinity of Washington DC. ** While largely failing to do so Trump's rhetoric at least provokes a sense of fear that access to Federal Feeding Trough - may be at least transitorily disrupted. **
Trump is almost certain to win the Republican Nomination for President. Viewing the one-year polling data on Real Clear Politics, Trump has created an insurmountable lead over his would be challengers. Reviewing the past several decades of polling data - no Republican candidates has ever come from as far behind as Haley and DeSantis are to win the nomination.
Trump has immense support in MAGA voters, when arguably one of the most influential and visible Democrats (Jeffries) continuously labels them as extremists that has repercussions. As a Trump how comfortable are you with a Government that could you label you and your peers as something akin to Terrorists. Jeffries' style of rhetoric panders to the fear on the left, but certainly stokes it on the right also.
