President Erdogan of Turkey has voiced the possibility of Turkey intervening in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict as Israel begins a ground invasion of Gaza.

The straight-line distance over the Mediterranean Sea to Gaza is just over 300 miles. Turkey has a large and relatively modern military and Air Force, with a large fleet of F-16 fighters and a variety of heavy capacity transport air craft. Turkey even maintains it's own network of surveillance satellites. The Turkish Navy has some capacity to transport troops and armor.
Turkey is a member of NATO. Most NATO members and signatories are presently supporting Israel in their conflict with the Palestinians. This adds a particular complication if Turkey does intervene in some capacity. What will this mean for NATO, and Turkey's relationship with Europe.
It is challenging for me to discern if how far Erdogan is willing exert Turkey's influence into the conflict. It is possible that Erdogan is deliberately posturing to gain concessions from the West and to raise Turkey's status on the global stage. It is also possible that Erdogan is being driven to intervene by members of his own party, and supporters. The recent protests in Turkey have demonstrated both a strong Pro-Palestinian sentiment and an equally strong Anti-Israeli vein. Erdogan also recently stated that he did not see Hamas as terrorists but rather righteous freedom fighters.
Whatever Erdogan's motivations - his statements certainly complicate a perilous scenario which may spiral into a broader regional conflict or even World War.
