At the beginning of the month, a new scandal shook Brasília, as usual. This time, the Minister of Human Rights Silvio Luiz de Almeida was the target of a series of accusations of moral and sexual harassment by employees of his ministry.
First, a report published on UOL highlighted that fifty-two people had left their positions in the ministry since last year, thirty of whom and a resignation request.
After the article, allegations of sexual harassment that had already been circulating behind the scenes in Brasília came to light, but which had not been explored until then due to lack of confirmation. However, the news portal Metrópoles was able to confirm with the non-governmental organization Me Too that they had received more than one complaint involving the minister.
Then, journalist Mônica Bergamo also highlighted that she had had the information since June, but that since there was no confirmation, she had not yet published on the subject. One of the victims would be the Minister of Racial Equality Anielle Franco, who chose not to make the incident public so as not to harm the government.
At first, President Lula intended to remove the minister so that he could defend himself against the accusations, but given the attacks against the Me Too organization, using the ministry for this purpose, the president had no other alternative than to dismiss him. Minister Anielle Franco, on the other hand, preferred to issue a statement in which she highlighted the need to recognize the seriousness of this practice and act immediately.
Since then, many left-wing activists have spoken out, saying they were surprised and in disbelief at the news. And here, I would like to draw attention to something that needs to be assessed. First, if dozens of people were suffering moral harassment within the Ministry of Human Rights, what can we expect from environments where it would probably be much more difficult to report this type of practice?
Second, how can a minister who defends gender equality and various feminist issues remain silent in the face of sexual harassment perpetrated by a colleague in the government? What is clear is that the forcefulness of reporting is much more applicable when it comes to attacking another ideological camp and becomes complicity when it comes to protecting those who belong to one's ideology.
Another thing that is clear is that the victim generally feels powerless in the face of harassment until other victims decide to report it too. This is why organizations like Me Too are so important and why Silvio Almeida's attack through the ministry itself is even more repulsive.
Regarding the surprise or denial on the part of those who share the same ideology as the former minister, it is clear that many believe that the speech is enough to make people suspicious, when in reality the speech is just theory, which can be very far from practice, after all anyone is susceptible to committing crimes, regardless of whether they are a defender of human rights, a religious leader or even an activist who attacks exactly what they usually practice.

Na início do mês, um novo escândalo abalou Brasília, para não perder o costume. Desta vez, o ministro dos Direitos Humanos Silvio Luiz de Almeida foi alvo de uma série de denúncias por assédio moral e sexual pelos funcionários do seu ministério.
Primeiramente, uma reportagem publicada no UOL destacava que cinquenta e duas pessoas haviam deixado o cargo no ministério desde o ano passado, sendo trinta e um pedidos de demissão.
Depois da matéria, vieram à tona denúncias de assédio sexual que já circulavam nos bastidores de Brasília, mas que até então não haviam sido exploradas pela falta de confirmação. No entanto, o portal de notícias Metrópoles conseguiu confirmar com a organização não governamental Me Too que haviam recebido mais de uma denúncia envolvendo o ministro.
Em seguida, a jornalista Mônica Bergamo também destacou que tinha a informação desde junho, mas que como não havia confirmação ainda não havia publicado sobre o assunto. Uma das vítimas seria a ministra da Igualdade Racial Anielle Franco, que optou por não tornar público o ocorrido para não prejudicar o governo.
A princípio, o presidente Lula pretendia afastar o ministro para que ele se defendesse das acusações, mas diante dos ataques contra a organização Me Too, utilizando o ministério para isso, não restou outra alternativa ao presidente do que a demissão. Já a ministra Anielle Franco preferiu se manifestar por nota onde destacava a necessidade de reconhecer a gravidade dessa prática e agir imediatamente.
Desde então, muitos militantes de esquerda se pronunciaram dizendo-se surpresos e incrédulos com a notícia. E, aqui, gostaria de chamar a atenção para algo que precisa ser avaliado. Primeiro, se dentro do Ministério dos Direitos Humanos haviam dezenas de pessoas sofrendo assédio moral, o que esperar de ambientes onde provavelmente seria muito mais difícil ainda denunciar esse tipo de prática?
Depois, como uma ministra que defende a igualdade de gênero e diversas pautas feministas se omite diante de um assédio sexual praticado por um colega de governo. O que fica evidente é que a contundência para denunciar se aplica muito mais quando se trata de atacar outro campo ideológico e se torna conivência quando se trata de proteger os que pertencem à sua ideologia.
Outra coisa que fica evidente é que geralmente a vítima se sente impotente diante do assédio até que outras vítimas decidem denunciar também. Por isso, organizações como o Me Too são tão importantes e fica ainda mais repulsivo o ataque de Silvio Almeida através do próprio ministério.
Com relação à surpresa ou negação por parte dos que compartilham a mesma ideologia do ex-ministro, fica evidente que muitos acreditam que o discurso é suficiente para tornar as pessoas insuspeitas, quando na realidade o discurso é apenas a teoria, que pode ser muito distante da prática, afinal qualquer pessoa é suscetível a cometer crimes, independente de ser defensor dos direitos humanos, um líder religioso ou até mesmo um militante que ataca justamente o que costuma praticar.
