Winning, Losing and Learning

One of my close friends told me the other day his experiences in Forex trading. At that time, he was just starting out in trading for the second time. After a poor showing, however one day he resolved to stop for good. I have learned from his experiences and feel that they will be very useful to someone beginning trading. He picked up the game, made a few small trades and even won a couple times. From this quick win at the outset, his self-confidence grew but so did greed.

Little by little he took bigger risks and soon was putting all his eggs in one basket. Only one decision wiped out that entire season's gains, he lost it all. It was particularly that final blow which hurt him a lot. "I enjoy winning," he told me," but to lose is just too much." Feeling good about a win is natural for anyone; but when bad luck comes at us all of a sudden and we are unable to cope with it, we are in trouble.

We must remember that in fact there is more to life than just winning. Sometimes we can win yet then we suddenly hit a wall. However we look at it, I call this "failing". Both are chances for learning. Winning demonstrates the importance of hard work, endurance, and being at the right place and time in record. But failure, that can teach man humility, patience, and another look. I'm hapoy to say that he was able to bounce back with time and suceeded in his second try.

My friend's predicament reminds me strongly of life's examples of failure turning into success. Take Thomas Edison for example. He failed thousands of times in his quest to invent the light bulb. When asked about these failures, he replied: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that do not work." Every failure brought him that much closer to victory. Victory did not mean the end of defeat for this friend. It spelled out quite a tough lesson in greed, danger and the fact that in a new field you really have to take it slow.

As a result of the ordeal he initially gave up on Forex trading; but after some time he decided to try again. Whenever such an opportunity presents itself, he meets exactly the same experience with heightened caution and wisdom, realizing setbacks are part of the journey. We may be at different times in life, we may be doing business, we may be in relationships, or perhaps something else.

But you know what? Don't worry over loss. It's' all right to lose, the thing that really counts is what we take away from losing; victory is sweet. However even defeat can make one a better person mentally or emotionally. Our lifetime is a mix of wins and losses. If one could learn so much from both, then perhaps there might be some rather unexpected benefits along the way.

I agree with you. We have to be able to learn from both the wins and the losses and then make use of it moving forward. We might hit the jackpot along the line, or not. But we’ll never know if we don’t try.

I’m positive that your friend will get the best out of forex someday. I’ve heard worst stories that later became a huge success story. But then it doesn’t mean we should always go all in, I honestly hate the all-in idea, diversifying is the 8 wonders of the world if done correctly.

Thank you for your thoughtful and kind words. The success stories after rough starts of things always feel good when we hear but rough times is something no one wants. Whether we win or lose there is always something to learn, the two provides a lesson. The best thing we can do is to persist and learn along the way especially when we fail or lose.

Exactly! Many want pleasure without pain. But you can't get one without the other. Only those who get there are those who keep on trying no matter how many setbacks they have been faced with in the past.

No pain, no gain, most successful people can relate to that. i see that's the reality in our world but then we live in a time when people want to overlook the challenges of this life and focus only on the good side.

I had the same experience from your friend. I tried with trading and I had a couple wins, but then I risked it all in one movement and I lose it all. I tried a couple times again but it happened again, so I decided trading wasn't for me.
