Just like all that dream, Joy had her own dreams too. She always wanted to be a barrister. Her drive for the profession was as a result of the way her mother was maltreated by her uncles, after her father's death. Everything that was left for her mom by her father, were all seized by her uncles. All they left for them was just the buildings they are living in and maybe other investments her uncles know nothing about.

Amidst all these, she never failed to dream and work towards actualising her dreams of being a lawyer. She takes her studies seriously and never let anything come in the way of becoming who she wants to be. In college, she had a lot of awards for her academic excellency. In fact, her academic performance seems to be the only thing that takes her mom's mind off the troubles of her brother-in-law.

Joy finished college in flying colours, and was fortunate to gain admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka, to study law, just as she has always dreamt of. Her resolution before moving down to Nsukka was to always be herself and make sure she's the best among all. Her mother's words to her were very few. "My daughter, you have always been making me proud, just don't relent, I am always here for you". Her mom told her while dropping her off in school.

Joy excellently integrated into the university environment, and was among the best in her year one and two. However, Daniel was always above her in performance — which she isn't too cool with. She just wanna be the best and nothing less than the best.

A lot of guys showed interest in her but she turned them all down. She was so focused on her studies. In her third year, her efforts paid out and she became the best in the class, topping Daniel. She continued that way till her final year.

In the second semester of her final year, she went to night to read for her exams. While reading, the light was seized. Unfortunately that day, she didn't come with her lantern. So she had to go back to her room to get her lantern. On her way, she met some guys at a corner, one of which was Anthony — who asked her out, but she rejected.

Pained by the rejection, Anthony has been looking for a way to get back to Joy. On seeing Joy that night, he felt it was the best opportunity to do so. So he rushed her with his gangs, and raped her.

That was the beginning of Joy's misfortune. She couldn't bear the pain. In her eyes, all her dreams and aspirations seem to be in jeopardy. She felt that her life had come to an end.

She was able to conclude her exams, but couldn't be called to bar that year because of her pregnancy.

Three years later she was called to the bar, and fulfilled her dream of being a barrister. As for Anthony, he was sent out of school and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
