I had been contemplating for a while now how to go about the "Slay the Dragon" Quest on the Adoption Campaign by LeoFinance. Whilst I appreciate art in any form, I have zero skill about it, even to doodle something simple. So when I saw the task, my heart sank knowing there won't be any chance I'm gonna compete with those who are creative. I was to borrow my niece's sketch tablet but forgot about it.
Anyway, I was so ready to give up. But today on waking up from an afternoon nap, I had the strong urge to search on how to sketch. It's when I found an idea on how to do mine. Then I quickly went on to search for an app where I could try and make some doodles. I do have Kita, photoshop and illustrator on my computer but I find them challenging to use to do freehand. I'm glad to have come across Sketch and when I tried, it was quite easy so I decided to use it for this very first attempt at doing an artwork.
Forgive me for this but
First was to upload the photo of a mural which I photographed somewhere during a road trip. Traced it using the "Pen" mode on the app. I then removed the image when I was done.
So I was left with this.
It was time to find a lion. It took me a while to have something that appealed to my liking and one would fit the image I had in mind. Credits to hdqwalls for this photo (No copyright infringement intended). I uploaded it to another file/page on Sketch and started to trace the lion on the left. It looked fierce, I thought.
I then copied the whole of it and added on the first file of the dragon which I've created earlier. It appeared as though the dragon was paying respect to it, right? I was having fun imagining how I'd make it look like a real fight. But in the middle of editing, the app froze. I almost cried, lol!
So I opened another file and began anew, doing the same thing, tracing up the images. This time, I decided to use the lion on the right and the "Pencil" mode.
I got carried away and had fun coloring it but it was a mistake 'coz when I tried to move the sketch to give more room for the dragon, I realized that the colored area is fixed/immovable. Another thing learned.
So doing it again, on another page and redone the dragon as well, this time, flipping it to face the other side and removing its horns to look like they broke while fighting with the lion.
Did some tweaking, coloring, erasing some, re-penciling etcetera.
Until I came up with this sketch. I wanted to have the dragon kneel in front of the lion but I couldn't make it so. I'd say he roared and the other surrendered, lol!
The husband suggested I re-do everything and have the lion smack the dragon on the face but it would probably take me another day so this is it for now. At least I tried my best.
Or what about a brutal one? Can a lion do that? The Farmboy said why not if the dragon is small? Okay. I did a resize, removed the dragon's head and boom! Finished it off with some reds and I'm done for the day😅 Did I mention the husband roared in laughter on seeing my final piece below? He said it did show the dragon was defeated which was hard to see on the previous one.
Started this sketch around 2 pm and just finished it at 8:30pm. Fun? Kinda. Thank you @anomadsoul for the challenge!
