POB Word of the Week : Paradox #004
I was surprised and glad that a lot of you liked my poem last week tackling about Persistence so I made another poem for this week's challenge. Participating on this challenge and writing poems somehow feels like improving my creativity with words. It's a breath of fresh air for me.
This week's word is Paradox. Thinking of what to write about this word took me some time. I kept looking faraway, little did I know, it's already right here inside of me.
Today, I share to you a poem about the introvert's paradox.
- INSIDE -
Sunny day, looking gloomy
Everyday, giving a yawn
Unknown to many
But known to one
Often assumed as timid
In a world that is too rigid
She just wanted peace
Yet there's a world she had to please
"Talk more", she was told
Unsolicited advice as their tongue rolled
Words she's been hearing since four years old
Do you think you can fit her into a mold?
Beneath her smug face
If only people dare to trace
What makes her heart race
She's fun in many ways
Wanting to be alone, yet seeking inclusion
She's human, she longs for connection
Not out of desperation nor for attention
Just a fraction who understands her action
Ah, the introvert's life!
Secluded yet wishing to be included
Feeling dead and alive
Embedded yet protruded
Hidden but not forgotten
Quiet and loud
Written over spoken
Humble yet proud
Solitude is her food
Don't mistake it as rude
She wanted to stay as long as she could
But this is for your own good, dude
Like rocks colliding together
Her thoughts they can't weather
Like different polarities repelling
A walking paradox, a complex wiring
She is the calm before the storm
A mind unlike the norm
A presence perceived as dense
Past the silence hides something intense
We all know about the terms introvert and extrovert but only few do try to really understand them, especially the complexities of the introverts. I have been told I'm so quiet that I should talk more. It's weird, I know I am quiet but I can also be talkative at times. In a social setting, I stand out like a sore thumb and get called out for being silent. Sad that my silence is all that is noticed and none of my efforts communicating was appreciated. I wish they knew how it feels like having a mind that is constantly on a tug-of-war. How their presence makes us happy and drains me at the same time. If only they understand.
Introverts are living paradoxes in a society designed for extroverts. We have so many thoughts clashing in our heads, so we apologize if we seem distant and quiet. Being alone with ourselves is the only way to untangle the threads of our thoughts and tame our restless mind.
