Just in on the Telegram:
Scandal erupts at Stanford University after Ameer Hasan Loggins, a Stanford instructor, made Jewish students stand in a corner so that they could "feel what Palestinians have been feeling for decades"
He also belittled the Holocaust while doing it.
I have seen this kind of thing before. It involved "white vs. black", and separate bathrooms for blacks and whites. It seemed strange to see photos of this in 24-bit color rather than gray scale. The idea of paying back members of the some race for what other members did, definitely isn't fair on the face of it. It stems from "critical race theory." It was practiced on regular white Americans with perhaps the same motivation as this professor.
Can we pass on empathy by having a group act out the role of the repressed?
On the contrary, does the same act create more animosity instead?
I remember in my childhood this kind of exercise was done with me. I didn't really mind it. It wasn't a big deal to me. All it involved was inviting a select group of people from the cabin for a short walk and I wasn't invited (shocking). This is super mild. It is even more mild than being made to stand in a corner like some dunce.
For other reasons I wont get into here, I know what it feels like to be in fear for months at time. I think a lot of us do now thanks to 2020s either for the fear of the virus or the forced vaccination or both. No, standing in a corner in a safe university campus doesn't convey the terror that the Palestinians must have been living under for decades. Imagine your father or mother or both being violently killed during your childhood, as a result you'd be starving, weak and unsafe in your own home all the time at night while you try to sleep, you listen intently for a that little sound in the night which might be the last sound you ever hear.
I think making students stand in a corner, isn't so horrible. I mean come on. There is no ethical way you can capture what the Palestinians are going through and make them feel the same and so the balance must be struck on the light side.
