One thing that is always constant is change! Reflecting on my lifetime since I was born in 2004, I've observed significant changes in my country Nigeria, and not all for the better. These changes span various aspects of society, from the economy and values to leadership and social dynamics.
Economic Deterioration
Growing up, I've seen the Nigerian economy struggle with numerous challenges. Despite being called the "Giant of Africa" the economy is nothing to write home about.
The Currency, naira has depreciated considerably, inflation rates have soared, and unemployment has reached alarming levels. Economic policies have often failed to address the root causes, leading to a continuous decline in living standards for many Nigerians.
Everyone living currently in Nigeria who can afford 3 full meals is rich. Food is very expensive now, even the most common ones. Prices don't just double, they triple and it doesn't fall to normal.
The increase ×3 of Petrol price has affected transportation too and it is very expensive to take public transportation.
In short: Everything is expensive!
Leadership: From Bad to Worse
The political landscape has been marked by a series of disappointments. While democracy was intended to bring stability and progress, corruption and mismanagement have remained pervasive. Each successive leadership seems to struggle with delivering on promises, and in many cases, the situation has gone from bad to worse. Citizens' trust in the government has eroded.
The leaders do as they like without really caring for the poor citizens.
Education and Healthcare Challenges
The education and healthcare sectors have also faced significant struggles. Public schools and universities suffer from strikes, underfunding, and deteriorating infrastructure. Access to quality education is becoming increasingly difficult for many. In healthcare, the system remains under-resourced and overwhelmed.
Also both education and Healthcare is very expensive. Making it hard for most people to get adequate care
.
Technological Advances Amidst Challenges
While the overall picture may seem bleak, one area where there has been notable progress is technology. The rise of the internet and mobile technology has connected Nigerians like never before. Despite economic hardships, the tech industry has seen impressive growth. Startups are emerging, and young entrepreneurs are finding innovative ways to tackle local problems.
I am especially impressed on the improvement in Nollywood movie editing. The images has become very clearer, the storylines has improved greatly and Nollywood has even gained international recognition.
In summary, Nigeria has undergone significant changes during my lifetime, many of which have been challenging and disheartening.
The economy, leadership, and social values have faced considerable deterioration. However, amidst these difficulties, the resilience and creativity of Nigerians, particularly the youth, are very impressive.
