Mini robot that emits light for cancer.

Light treatment.

For some types of cancer, light offers a powerful and minimally invasive treatment, however, this photodynamic therapy is effective mainly on superficial cancers, leaving deeper ones out of reach.

With this in mind, researchers at the University of Notre Dame have developed a relentless, wireless LED device for the treatment of deep cancers found within the body surrounded by a complex network of tissues, blood and bone that protects cancer cells from light healing.

This new technology could change this imagine a robotic device the size of a grain of rice capable of saving lives, this device contains a photosensitive dye with a Dual effect, light activates the dye by converting oxygen inside cancer cells into toxins, But that's not all, this treatment also triggers a specific type of cell death that alerts the immune system to the threat. Some colors of light penetrate deeper into tissues than others.

It turns out that green light that does not penetrate as deeply has the ability to generate a more robust response against cancer cells, initially a dye containing light-sensitive molecules is administered directly into the cancer cells by injecting directly into the tumor, then the device Activated remotely using an external antenna, the dye absorbs light and converts it into energy by converting oxygen inside cancer cells into toxins leading them to self-destruct, through a process called pyroptosis.

Results and tests. The goal is to induce just a little cell death from pyroptosis, which will cause the patient's immune system to begin attacking the cancer on its own. The next phase involves testing this technology in mice to determine if the immune system can detect and attack another tumor on its own after being primed by this treatment.

This could represent a breakthrough in the fight against deep-seated tumors, researchers see this device as a multifunctional tool, in addition to providing targeted light therapy it can also function as a real-time monitor allowing doctors to adjust treatment according to the tumor response.

Here is a technology that will undoubtedly bring a lot of pride to humanity in the future, for more information check the links in the References.
