INTRODUCTION
Considering the fact that Air seems free and not bought, most individuals fail to realize the importance attached to the act of taking a daily pause to observe their breath, and the opportunity tied around healthy breathing.
The benefits around healthy breathing cuts across-the-board, psychology, philosophy as well as mental soundness. I was poised to write this article after a routine facility observation for days.
From my observation, most patients with cases of breath impediment/difficulty i.e asthma, influenza, pneumonia and tuberculosis, could easily be detected if proper breath cognizant are observed and cases could be efficiently managed if early treatment applies.
PSYCHOLOGY OF BREATH
What's breathing? Breathing is commonly said to be the process of taking air into and expelling it from the lungs. Medically it's appears to be more complex than that. Breathing involves respiratory processes that aids muscular contraction and relaxation.
Psychologically breathing acts as a mechanism for lung's ventilation, consisting of cycles of alternate inhalation and exhalation. Considering the fact that muscular controls Nearly all movement in the body I.e posture, joint stability, and heat production. It becomes inevitable for individuals to live without proper respiration.
The importance of breathing cannot be quantified because it's essential for human existence, some of the benefits of careful breath observation includes:
- The practice of in-depth breath observation can help to manage anxiety: it's most unfortunate that people fail to understand that the cheapest therapy for anxiety management is just a calm breath, which helps to relax the brain with the right massage.
- Heart rate reduction and blood pressure management: Sometimes the best form of stress reduction is just a silent breath. Which reduces your heartbeat, calms your nerves.
- Cognitive digestion requires lots of oxygen, which can only be achieved through in depth breath
As an athlete, it helps potential actualization: Proper breathing during cardio helps your muscles get the oxygen they need to keep going, allowing you to go longer and harder without getting winded.
Note: effective breathing can also provide you with a greater sense of mental clarity, sleep better, digest food more efficiently, improve your body's immune response, and reduce stress levels.
Dangers of breath observation:
One of the adverse effects of poor breath observation is, Openness to many negative diseases i.e hyperventilation (breathing too quickly), Anemia (low level of red blood cells). Asthma. Anxiety, Heart or lung problems.
Conclusion
To ensure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, life moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life. That's the key to a healthy live. Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. But all is embedded in good respiration which covers both psychological as well as mental fitness.
