Are games already as realistic as it gets?

Maybe not but for sure they're spine chilling close. Look at this one:

Yes, you can tell that the human figures are great but still look artificial. However, the environment could be easily coming out of a Ukrainian soldier's cam in the front line. The hardest part is to recreate as convincing humans but looks like we're not that far from that point anymore.

I mentioned "spine chilling" before not just because that's how it feels to me but I am also afraid that there's more and more people who have become numb after so much exposure to realistic virtual violence.

The moon is closer to the sun than I am to a gamer but at the view of this video I recalled the time a friend of mine gave me GTA. This wan an age ago (or maybe two for PC game standards) but still this thing had a huge impact to me for the short time I tried it. I remember one evening after playing it for a while I go out to meet my friends and as soon as I jump on my bike I am driving like crazy as if the game was still on. It felt so natural to drive like a hooligan that I barely noticed the difference till at some point while filtering the traffic like a maniac I ask myself "why the F are you flying since you're in no hurry?".

If a thing like that had an impact on me that would embarrass substances then I don't want to know what happens to people playing stuff like the one in the video on a daily basis. Needless to mention all day long use side effects. Right now I'm in Serbia as part of my super long trip around Europe (you can follow the episodes on my blog) and only a couple of days before I arrived they had tens of gun shooting incidents mostly in schools with tens of casualties. In less than a week's time.

I'm not here to say ban this or ban that, I wish it would be as simple as that but I am afraid it's not. We have to do the almost humanely impossible, to zoom out of our lives and observe things from a wider viewing angle than our tiny comfort zone:

Where are we heading to if what keeps people together is mainly the excess of hormones or the lack of money?

The above might be anything new for mankind but if we want to consider ourselves evolved beings I think we should take things a notch further. There's not much life left when your little baby soul is dead and gone, regardless what you had sacrificed it for.

Have a good life everyone.

Sort:

People, my nephew being one of them, keep telling me that gamers are not influenced by this.. of course they/we are!
It's in our nature to take pictures in.
I don't play games like that and prefer making music.

There's too much money in this business and too many people are bored and not learning what better to do with their lives..

Great post, my friend, I'd be up for a ban, no doubt.. 😉
Happy riding!

Yeah, I really doubt one can be exposed to such stuff and stay untouched by it.
I'm glad you liked it and thankful for your comment/support. Have a nice day!

😃

I couldn’t agree more. I loved the original games like Doom, Duke Nuke em, early call of duty etc etc. The early games being sci-fi, fantasy were not so bad but where the reality gets closer to the bone, I worry a lot. I know exactly what you mean when it comes to GTA and it has the same effect on me, even the very first version which was bas-relief made me drive aggressively back home from my friends house.

Luckily for you and I we’re well balanced people but there are some who’ve lost touch with that division of fantasy and reality.

We do need to zoom out and take a long hard look at all of the things that are wrong with humanity. Banning things never solves a thing, that will make them more determined to get hold of firearms from every worse sources than they already do.

We need to reinvent our world in the hope we put the most volatile of people on a better path out to give them more love In the first place.

The answer isn’t an obvious one.

P.S. And thanks for reblogging too!

You’re welcome. Your post was a very well presented argument indeed and everyone should see it.

At the moment it is one of the least seen haha. I really appreciate your comment.

Thanks for the substantial comment to which I don't have much to disagree. Ban can work on some things but not sure this is one of them and as you say the answer is far from obvious. From an even wider viewing angle I tend to think that people's problems are not exactly solvable at the end of the day hence they come back knocking our door even after we "solve" them. On the other hand, even if this is true, we shouldn't give up. It's disappointing to realise that all you can do with mankind's malfunctions is control them for some time till they get out of control again but it's even worse to give up and... it is what it is.
Have a nice day!
