Auto Updating Posts: How I fixed It

in #hive-1503292 years ago

As I mentioned previously I wanted to see posts get their votes updated. The cause of the problem was my beliefs I had about the notification system. Sometimes these implicit ideas I didn't realize were ideas until now. Like the idea that having the number of unread notifications would imply that the data also had the notifications themselves. So the notifications wont load, and if we depend on the notification content then we will need to wait for the user to inspect the notifications before all of the tests used would be triggered. Loading the reloading the post data every time there is a change in the number of unread notifications seems like a good compromise.

Perhaps I should make it depend on the age of the post, and whether the user viewing it is the author of the post?

How can we make things more dynamic in order to make the experience more fun? If there is a vote on a post it should appear immediately. How can we implement this fun feature so that it isn't too hard on the client browser, the network and the servers involved?

If someone upvotes or replies my post while I am looking for it, I want to see these events make their changes, possibly with some kind of animation or a "cha-ching" sound. It would be fun to see the vote counts of posts in lists we are looking at update in real time.

@ecency made some good points about involving the community in the process of development. Developers of Ecency like the idea of involving the users to help guide their work. It makes sense. In this article posted by my alter ego leprechaun it almost got 500 votes was about how there is no subsidy to most front ends and what front end builders do. The single comment was how @busy, (remember him?) wanted to give users a change to help direct development but most users were still trying to figure this thing out.😄

I saw people voting on this post which I followed long ago and I though they had quit the platform. Thanks guys.

Streaming transactions in from the Hive blockchain might be a way to make the webpages more dynamic but I wonder if it would be too slow if it had that feature.
