Searching for a Niche
I've decided to get to know myself a little more than I do right now. The reason behind this and previous posts on psychology and creating a sort of self-help online course is that I'm realizing that what I want to sell, is a map of my own life path. But in order to do as well as I can in creating a product that I love and believe will help others like me, I need to define and get to know my ideal avatar.
Here, my ideal customer (avatar) is me. The best part about it is that I already know most of this avatar's passions, lifestyle and spending habits... True, but I need to go deeper! And so with what I learned just yesterday and wrote about, I want to do a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment. While it isn't free at the moment, i have found some other "tests" that are inspired by the official MBTI. Turns out it's pretty close to what I feel I am.
What this test came up with for me, is that I am introverted, intuitive, feely, and perceiving... When I read into it a bit longer, I thought about myself and was really impressed on how a bunch of answers to questions given to me came up with something that sounds just like me!!!
I am an INFP-A personality type, the extra letter stands for Assertive! I guess I am pretty assertive from time to time. The test came from a place called 16 Personalities, and it gave me a little analysis too:
Personality type: Mediator (INFP-A)
Traits: Introverted – 59%, Intuitive – 74%, Feeling – 54%, Prospecting - 56%, Assertive – 67%
Role: Diplomat
Strategy: Confident Individualism
I went on to read a little more about this... and really, it's impressive how close it is to how I do Life! The niche that is Me is going to be an interesting thing to develop over the next few weeks.
The INFP Personality Type:
INFPs are imaginative idealists, guided by their own core values and beliefs. To a Healer, possibilities are paramount; the realism of the moment is only of passing concern. They see potential for a better future, and pursue truth and meaning with their own individual flair.
INFPs are sensitive, caring, and compassionate, and are deeply concerned with the personal growth of themselves and others. Individualistic and nonjudgmental, INFPs believe that each person must find their own path. They enjoy spending time exploring their own ideas and values, and are gently encouraging to others to do the same. INFPs are creative and often artistic; they enjoy finding new outlets for self-expression.
Working it all out
With this info, I think I can craft a pretty awesome product for myself. I know how I like to learn, and if I am to build a course for people with my specific personality type in mind, I can theoretically customize it perfectly to my needs, and therefore to those who tend to think like I do.
By cross-referencing my values and interests with my personality type, I can really pinpoint a very specific niche. I can even fine tune this even further, as it turns out there are about 6.3% individuals with this personality type in the general population. With some more easy research I can even find out that 7.6% are women and 4.9% are men.
This work is giving me an edge over those who may not be doing their avatar research, and because I have the most expertise in me, it will be a much more passionate and genuine product. I stand to gain a lot of momentum once everything is worked out on this map.
I'm very excited to have gone down this path, and I can hardly wait to see what comes out of it! The hardest thing for me will be to execute and continue to walk this road.
