Feeling burnt-out is a common problem we encounter in our jobs and todo tasks. Even that happiest job will at some point make you burn out. We even need motivation after completing a project and more energy to start up a new one. Alot of circumstances always aggravate the rate at which we get burnt out.
Burn-out is a kind of energy drain one experience when the requirements from work surpasses the level of energy one currently have for that endeavour. It could be emotional (steered by negative feelings) and it could be mental( steered by mental incapacity). I honestly know how i find it difficult to create a relatable content here on hive atimes due to burn-out from work. Either way, I have found some tricks that has been helpful to me, to re-fill my energy after being drained.
Most time, we undermine the quality of having breaks during workdays. We always think all success is a result of hardwork and then we try to overwhelm ourselves with alot of workload in the bid to out work others. The truth is our body works on different sources of energy, energy from food, energy from encouragement, energy from relaxation, entertainment etc. We alway need to take breaks and refill our energy tanks from available sources. Taking breaks could mean reducing your workload. I remember my boss will always ask me if I'm drowning, floating or swimming. This is a feedback session to measure what affects my performance and what inneed to get task done efficiently.
If you'd agree with me, our digital lives also contribute to draining us out. Endless scrolling from one social media to the other can be doing us more harm than good. Seeing luxurious lifestyle of peers, jaw breaking achievements etc can bring about negative emotions where draining thoughts of how funny your life hasn't been what you actually expected and hoped for. Putting a check on our digital life can help reduce energy drain.
I also enjoy using my off-hours for entertainment and doing something pleasurable. Atimes, my colleagues and I would just have a stroll, talk about the English Premier League or raise controversial topics about relationship and live generally. Having different views that might be hilarious usually diffuse tension and ease up the nerve. Truly, entertainment is a source of energy.
Another perspective we might be missing is if the burnout is really a burnout or just you're dealing with something more serious. If having applied all this and you remain unmotivated to work, or having no peace of mind about it, then you have to review your long term goals. We tend to get weary of work when we stop finding meaningful purpose from it in both the short run and long run. Then if that's thr case, a change in direction is needed. A wholistic review of our lives, dreams and aspiration can help generate energy to refocus and step out of regular burnout.
How else do you overcome burnout? Feel free to share.
