Still No "Smart" Cell Phone and Going Strong

in #hive-1503293 years ago

Hello!

My very first post on POB was how I got rid of my cell phone. Well, I unplugged and am happy to report it has stayed that way. Here is the link to the original post if you would like to read it before perusing this one. https://www.proofofbrain.io/@unicorn-tamer/a-rant-about-judgements-on-choosing-not-to-have-a-cell-phone-anymore

It has been a journey and one that I would review as quite well. Not too many bumps and bruises. A few though.

Now, I do have a flip phone that has no internet and makes me want to stab myself in the eye with a fork when texing on it, but the only people who have that number are my husband and my son. I take it with me when I am walking the dog and when I am driving in case of an emergency.

I am happy to report that all of my friends except for one has kept up with me just as much as before when I did have a cell phone. They call my landline, email me and come over and we still get together and do the fun things. My family, not so much..... I don't hear from my grandmother as much, she is 80 and surprisingly very techy and I don't hear from my younger cousings quite as much either. But I still call them and email them and do hear back, just not quite as much. I would say about 25% less.

I ended up getting a gps for my car and it is pretty crappy. So I look up directions on google maps ahead of time and my sense of directions is slowly but surely improving. I am most positive that my husband is very, very, very, VERY thankful for this new skill that was thrust upon me.

The major problem ended up being access to the internet. We have one laptop in the home and although my hubby kindly shares it, it is his. So we would end up negotiationg who would go on it and for how long they would get, quite often. The solution to this ended up being me going on my husbands cell phone and using it. The better solution to this ended up being me getting a tablet. I have had it for about a month and so far can put it down after doing what I need. I don't end up spending too long on it and there are no addiction issues. It is odd, but the way my brain works, is if I am on a computer, laptop, tablet etc. I can control the usage no problem. Now my husband can use his laptop without having to lose access to his cell phone and I don't have to constantly relay mandala code verifications to him lol or wait for him to text someone back quickly so I can finish my things and then spend way to long doing un-important scrolling and draining all of his battery. His weekly screen time usage reports are looking much better now that I am not involved.

The best thing that has happenned is that I can proudly say, I am reaching my goals and it really is because I have no cell phone. I have an awesome morning routine that I have stuck with and I am so proud of myself. I excercise and stretch every day, shower, do my eye improvement excercises and walk the dog when it's not too cold and then get to work with business items and taking care of the household. I feel a million times better and my sleep has improved and my stress levels are way down. Aside from the bee incident along side a couple other physical catastrophies, but I am positive it would have been worse if a cell phone was in my life. Here is the link if you would like to read a funny story about a bee getting stuck in my shirt.

One user had a valid point of becoming dead weight in society because I was not keeping up to date with what the rest of the world was doing. Well... in my honest opinion, I am still a valuable member of society with out being dead weight. In my personal experience the changes that I have made along side not having a smart cell phone prevented this. Like the flip for emergencies and the gps in my vehicle, and the tablet. I still use technology, just not a smart phone. It has never been the right choice for me. Interesingly enough, here in the crypto world, we are not doing what the rest of society is doing and we are thriving. I am extremely thankful for the technology that has allowed so many of us to do so. Technology is not wrong, you just have to find the right tech for you.

thank you for the love @onealfa.vyb cookie monster rocks!

Very interesting read! I remember in 2008 telling people that I didn't text. It was right about the time they were having plans that included unlimited texting. A business person told me I was missing out. I tried it and got hooked. I rarely call anyone now. I either use Marco Polo on my phone or text. The only ones who I call ever are my family members or the occasional call to a local business for whatever random question I have...like are you open? (happens less now that people have cooled their jets on the restrictions, slightly)...

Anyway, it's interesting to hear a regressive perspective. I don't think I'll ever go back to a less-than-smart phone, but I enjoy your thoughts on it! Thanks for sharing!

I work from home for my husbands framing company, which is quite small, not having a cell phone has not effected my job. I do the books, taxes, cheques etc. and if I have a question for a sub contractor, I email them. :) I worked for an indoor strawberry farm for about a month and half, hence the bee stings lol, thank you for the comment! I am glad you found it ineresting.

Interesting read, loved it, to be honest tech is something you gotta experience to know if its "your thing", basically is a slow adaptation process and sometimes is harder to actually be open to learn new things, one might be older but quick to learn, you might be a young kid but stubber as a mule you will learn nothing. Basically that is how learning goes, and such is life :)

Thank you! Good points.
