Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.
So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:
Aeldari, Maugan Ra
10th Edition Index
Those of the Aeldari who dedicate themselves to becoming warriors join an Aspect Temple to learn the ways of war of that Temple. An Aeldari who becomes elite in that Temple becomes an Exarch.
Members that master multiple Temples become Autoarchs.
But there exists in each Temple the Phoenix Lords. These Aeldari lords were the most proficient legendary warriors who become the ever-living representations of that Temple.
They are known as Phoenix Lords because they never truly die. Should a Phoenix Lord fall in battle, an Exarch of that Temple will wear his armor and their souls merge and the Phoenix Lord is born anew.
Maugan Ra is the Phoenix Lord of the Dark Reapers. He is, of course an Epic Hero so you can only have 1 of him in your army.
He costs 115pts to field and is $45 at the shop price!
Let's see his stats!
Stats
Movement 7"
Toughness 3
Save 2+/4++(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 5
Ld 6+
OC 1
Weapons
Ranged:
The Maugetar
36" Range, 6 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, S7, Ap-1, 2 Damage each
Devastating Wounds, Ignores Cover
Melee:
The Maugetar
5 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, S6, Ap-2, 2 Damage each
Abilities
Face of Death
When making an attack (ranged and melee) that targets a unit that is below half strength, re-roll the to Hit and the to Wound dice.
Harvester of Souls
While leading a unit, models in the unit have +1 to Hit.
It is key to understand that Maugan Ra's 2+ to hit cannot become a 1+ to hit and therefore hitting automatically. A roll of a 1 is always a miss.
However, should another rule debuff his Hit rolls with a -1, then this +1 and the -1 cancel out and he would still be hitting on 2+!
Thoughts
His ranged attacks are great and the buffs he gives to Dark Reapers are quite straight forward. With such high BS, the Aeldari player does not need to worry much about using Fate Dice on this unit.
That said, while he is not a pushover in melee, he is far less dangerous in combat than he is left to do his thing at ranged.
That makes 4 Aeldari Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 5.55% Completed! The total Completed on 8.95% Complete! Can I review them all?!
Thank you for reading!
