Some end of year swing

I have participated several times in the student collaborations on the Drumeo music school. They put out a track and people can record videos that get edited together. I have missed a few this year, but the latest was using one of their backing tracks that fitted right in with the jazz drumming I have been learning lately. It is an odd piece with several verses and gaps between them to improvise. I did a quick recording today. Drum audio is via my phone, so is not great quality.

Next year I will look into getting a better recording setup. It may be the Yamaha EAD10 which is a module that you attach to the bass drum and it records the whole kit. It allows for adding effects and triggering samples. There is a mobile app to make it easy to do play-alongs like this. It may not be a proper studio quality system, but I really need convenience for now. It is not cheap, so I may look to sell some $HIVE to pay for it. It would be great if the price could go a bit higher before I do that.

Drumeo do some great content. As well as the lessons they talk to great musicians about what they do. They just put out a documentary about Phil Collins. They got Phil and his drummer son Nic together to talk about is career. If you are a fan then it is a fun two hours. I do not think they were allowed to use the original Genesis music or Phil's solo stuff, but you can look that up anyway. He has had an amazing life, but is sadly not able to play any more due to illness and the damage done to his body from decades of drumming.

Rock on!

My nephew is getting into drumming and he will be getting a beginner set for christmas. I pity his parents and the neighbours haha.

I went around that problem with an electric kit. That way my family does not mind me letting off some steam to some rock tunes :-)

haha nice one

I have the electric kit too, but we are detached and so I can make some noise sometimes. I hope he enjoys it.

Oh they still work without being plugged in.. that's a great tip thanks :)

Electronic drums still make some tapping noise, but Roland have a new kit that is supposed to reduce that. Real drums are really loud!

I admire how Jazz people keep "it straight" pardon the pun. The changes in rhythm never sit right with me when I try playing it myself. Kudos on tackling this higher level of the art.
!HUG

Cheers. I'm still working on it.

@bpcvoter2, sorry! You need more $WRD to use this command.

The minimum requirement is 50.0 WRD balance.

More $WRD is available from Hive-Engine or Tribaldex

Phil must have been a very good drummer that did his things with a lot of strength to have incurred such illness. Oh yeah, drumming demand a lot of body movement in a fast manner depending on the kind of song being played.
I used to drum... but not a pro😅

Musicians need to take care of themselves. Bad posture can cause problems later. It may look good to have the cymbals up high, but it means a lot of bad stretching.

I will never be a pro, but it's fun.

Oh yeah, I grasp. Bad positioning sure has a way of suffering the body

I was very privileged to photograph Phil on his final tour back in 2006, I think it was? There were a bunch of us photographers in the pits and we had a bit more time than usual. It was bloody superb!

Drums are a great instrument, I wish I could play but my wife probably wouldn’t approve!!

That's cool. Was he still playing then? I think his son played on his last tour. He doesn't look well now, but still has a sense of humour.

Drums are fun and a great exercise in coordination. I sort of want to play with drum machines too, but need to find the time.

I’m dusting off my Elektron to explore some drum machinery! He was still playing but they did have two drummers, the other drummer was Chester Thompson and they were also recording the show for DVD
