I have participated several times in the student collaborations on the Drumeo music school. They put out a track and people can record videos that get edited together. I have missed a few this year, but the latest was using one of their backing tracks that fitted right in with the jazz drumming I have been learning lately. It is an odd piece with several verses and gaps between them to improvise. I did a quick recording today. Drum audio is via my phone, so is not great quality.
Next year I will look into getting a better recording setup. It may be the Yamaha EAD10 which is a module that you attach to the bass drum and it records the whole kit. It allows for adding effects and triggering samples. There is a mobile app to make it easy to do play-alongs like this. It may not be a proper studio quality system, but I really need convenience for now. It is not cheap, so I may look to sell some $HIVE to pay for it. It would be great if the price could go a bit higher before I do that.
Drumeo do some great content. As well as the lessons they talk to great musicians about what they do. They just put out a documentary about Phil Collins. They got Phil and his drummer son Nic together to talk about is career. If you are a fan then it is a fun two hours. I do not think they were allowed to use the original Genesis music or Phil's solo stuff, but you can look that up anyway. He has had an amazing life, but is sadly not able to play any more due to illness and the damage done to his body from decades of drumming.
Rock on!
