FungiFriday: Log White Fungus - Lentinus squarrosulus

Here are some photos of mushrooms taken during a walk in the countryside. It is just one species that appears to be Lentinus squarrosulus, or the log white fungus.

They are juvenile mushrooms, growing in small clusters on fallen logs. The white fruit body, with a fine scaly cap and stem, normally develops into mature mushrooms in 2-3 days with a cap the size of the palm of your hand.

According to an article I read (see: greeners.co) states that Lentinus squarrosulus is edible. Moreover, research conducted by scientists from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Indonesia, indicates that the mushroom contains important nutrients that are effective in treating cancer and serving as an antiviral agent.
